Speaking at Alcatraz on July 1, President Trump praised the rapid construction progress of the prison as he walked around and inspected dozens of empty bunk beds inside the iron cages.
Trump said: "This facility is about to house some of the most dangerous, most violent migrants on the planet. The prison is surrounded by miles of dangerous swamps and the only real way out is deportation."

This prison was built on an abandoned airport in the Everglades. The estimated cost of maintaining this immigrant detention center is $450 million per year, and it can hold approximately 5,000 people. The surrounding swamps are home to alligators and venomous snakes.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said on June 30: "There is only one road in, and the only way out is a one-way flight. It is isolated and surrounded by dangerous wildlife and rugged terrain. The facility will have up to 5,000 beds to house, process, and deport undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes."
Ms. Leavitt added: "This is an effective and inexpensive way to help carry out the largest mass deportation campaign in American history."

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced he will deploy 100 National Guard troops to the Alcatraz Alligator prison. The facility is expected to be operational as early as July 2nd.
Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier posted on the X platform that: "This facility is the only stop for President Trump's mass deportation program. This location saves money on security because there are many dangerous animals around."
To promote the opening of the facility, U.S. officials posted images on social media of alligators wearing U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (CIE) hats. Republican members of the U.S. party in Florida also sold alligator-themed clothing and beer mugs, according to Reuters.

Environmental groups are filing lawsuits to stop the construction of Alcatraz prison, alleging that the Trump administration violated the Endangered Species Act and environmental laws.
On July 1st, Mr. Trump dismissed environmental concerns, arguing that wildlife in wetlands would outlive humans. President Trump also stated that he wanted to see facilities similar to the "Alcatraz Alligator Prison" in other states across the United States.
