Over the weekend, the film "Oppenheimer" brought in an additional $28.7 million from 3,612 theaters in the North American market, thereby raising its total domestic revenue to $228.6 million after 3 weeks of showing.
Globally, the film, released by Universal Pictures, has grossed $552.9 million to date. According to Hollywood Reporter, the amount has made director Christopher Nolan's latest "brainchild" the highest-grossing World War II film of all time, surpassing Nolan's "Dunkirk" ($527 million) and Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" ($482 million).
“Oppenheimer” is also currently one of the four highest-grossing biopics of all time, alongside classics “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “The Passion of the Christ” and “American Sniper.”
Based on the 2005 biography "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, "Oppenheimer" is a historical drama set during World War II and tells the story of theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer, head of the Los Alamos Laboratory. "Oppenheimer" played a key role in the Manhattan Project, pioneered the development of nuclear weapons, and is considered one of the "fathers of the atomic bomb."
"Oppenheimer" is considered director Christopher Nolan's most ambitious work to date, aiming to delve into the psychology of the brilliant scientist behind the world-shaking invention.
The film stars two famous actors, Cillian Murphy (as Oppenheimer) and Robert Downey Jr. (as Lewis Strauss - a senior member of the US Atomic Energy Commission, who considers Oppenheimer a rival). In addition, the film also features many other famous faces such as Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek or Kenneth Branagh...
In Vietnam, "Oppenheimer" will be released in theaters from August 11.
