The DIFF season has started impressively.
Unique charm
On the evening of June 2nd, the opening night of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival - DIFF 2023, sponsored and co-organized by Sun Group, took place impressively. After a three-year wait, DIFF audiences once again witnessed the sky and the Han River seemingly merging as the "opening fireworks" display between the Da Nang fireworks team from Vietnam and the JoHo Pyro team from Finland unfolded.
While host nation Vietnam told a story of peace and friendship through the theme "Da Nang - the sound of peace," Finland expressed intense emotions and love for life in the theme "Starting the heart."

Nowhere else are fireworks so beloved and considered a top-tier specialty as in Da Nang. Therefore, the return of DIFF is eagerly awaited by tourists, while city leaders expect it to be a powerful boost for Da Nang's tourism .
Having been held for over 11 editions, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) has given the city a unique brand and appeal. 2017 marked a memorable milestone when DIFF was privatized; the Da Nang People's Committee entrusted Sun Group with organizing it, hoping to create a strong impression for Da Nang in 2017 and establish DIFF as a "must-attend festival" for visitors from around the world. DIFF successfully fulfilled this mission for many years before the pandemic struck. DIFF 2023, with the theme "A World Without Borders," is a testament to the efforts to promote the strong recovery of global tourism in general, and Vietnam and Da Nang in particular, after the pandemic.
Tourists flocked to various spots to watch the fireworks in Da Nang.
Attractive festivals and events, or more broadly, unique tourism products that are well-invested in and organized by the private sector, are gradually asserting their important role in bringing tourists back to destinations and promoting tourism growth.
In reality, localities that successfully create attractive festivals and events with unique characteristics reap impressive results in terms of tourist numbers. After the pandemic and the impact of the economic recession, this is truly the right approach and should be replicated in localities that consider tourism as a key economic sector.
Dr. Nuno F. Ribeiro, Senior Associate Dean of the Tourism and Hospitality Management Department at RMIT University Vietnam, stated at a tourism seminar organized by the Investment Newspaper in March 2023: "Most tourists are not just looking for a trip, but an experience. The richer and higher quality that experience, the more enjoyable it is for tourists, making them want to return to explore further and not hesitate to spend money."
For Da Nang to become an attractive destination, this summer, the city on the Han River not only has DIFF but also countless new experiences to invite tourists to enjoy. But the return of DIFF is truly a strong milestone that helps affirm its brand as a leading tourism destination in the country.
Efforts for the city's "pride"
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Chairman of Sun Group Central Vietnam, said that so far more than 80% of tickets for the 5 nights of fireworks have been sold. Tickets for the opening night were sold out just a few days after the organizers announced information about the festival. This shows the great appeal of DIFF after a 3-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The DIFF stadium was packed on the opening night, June 2nd.
In addition, Sun Group continues to partner with the Da Nang People's Committee to organize a series of side events for DIFF, affirming Da Nang as "Asia's leading event and festival destination" that tourists should not miss this summer.
The most attractive festivals include the Lantern Festival, the B'estival Food and Beer Festival, the Korean Culture Festival, the French Culture Festival… at Sun World Ba Na Hills. Along with these, many exciting experiences, both modern and traditional, are being organized throughout the summer in Da Nang, across all its streets and destinations.
Asia Park alone has hosted numerous music nights since the beginning of summer, featuring famous DJs from South Korea, launching traditional water puppet shows, and offering hot air balloon rides, constantly providing visitors with new and exciting experiences.
The atmosphere at Sun World Ba Na Hills is full of festivities this summer.
In reality, thanks to the return of DIFF, a series of service businesses, restaurants, hotels, and cruise ships on both sides of the Han River have also seen increased customer traffic, proactively launching combo packages of "dinner and fireworks viewing"...
The spectacular opening night, with its throngs of visitors, is a promising sign for DIFF and Da Nang tourism. Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, acknowledged that the return of the fireworks festival is a tremendous effort and achievement by the city. Simultaneously, the partnership with Sun Group has also played a crucial role in enabling Da Nang to successfully organize DIFF 2023.
According to Ms. Yen, this year's fireworks festival is expected to be a boost to help Da Nang tourism return to its pre-Covid-19 levels. With the support of businesses, Da Nang City is organizing 28 accompanying events over more than a month during the fireworks festival and expects to welcome more than 1.5 million visitors.
