Towards the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum APEC 2027 - the most influential foreign affairs event in the Asia-Pacific region, Phu Quoc, especially in the South Island, is entering the most important construction phase since becoming a special economic zone. A series of strategic infrastructure projects are being deployed simultaneously, not only to meet the technical, security and operational requirements for APEC, but also to contribute to shaping the appearance of the super urban island that Phu Quoc is aiming for in the period 2025-2030.
Phu Quoc International Airport – “gateway” to APEC 2027

As a key transport infrastructure project, Phu Quoc International Airport has been comprehensively upgraded according to ICAO's 4E standards, capable of receiving wide-body aircraft with 120 aircraft parking positions, and a capacity of up to 20 million passengers/year.

For an APEC host destination, the airport is not only a place for take-off and landing, but also the first "contact point", a place that reflects the image, service quality, technology and national positioning in the eyes of international friends. Phu Quoc International Airport therefore applies the most modern technologies in the world and is consulted and operated by Changi Airport Group - the operator of Changi Airport, Singapore. The passenger terminal and VVIP terminal have an iconic design, built according to high standards, applying the most modern operating system today - TAM, biometrics, automatic baggage handling technology... to help each visitor's journey be seamless and fast. This is a strategic move to open the door for strong integration of the special economic zone in the future.
The backbone traffic axis of Phu Quoc

As a special economic zone, Phu Quoc needs a multi-layered transport infrastructure system to meet both event transportation and long-term urbanization needs. DT.975 route, 19.26 km long, 62m wide with a minimum of 6 lanes, with an additional 15m dedicated to trams — is the backbone connecting the airport and the convention center. This route is the thread that shapes Phu Quoc's multi-center urban structure.

Along with that, the urban metro line (section 1) is 18km long, including 6 stations (1 underground station), transporting more than 4,500 people/hour, helping to shorten the travel time between "event - tourism - commercial coordinates" to just a few minutes. This is a rare infrastructure model in Vietnam but is often seen in international megacities such as Dubai, Singapore or Doha.
From a resort paradise, Phu Quoc is transforming strongly to become an economic – cultural – tourist destination of Asia – Pacific stature. APEC 2027 is therefore not the destination, but the beginning of a new era of integration and development.
International Convention Center – the heart of the new urban area

The Exhibition Center and Multi-purpose Performance Hall are designed according to the philosophy of balance "Round Heaven - Square Earth" in Eastern culture, symbolizing the harmony between tradition and modernity.

The biggest highlight at the Convention Center is the 81m-span, 11,050 m² column-free ballroom, which will become the largest ballroom in the world, surpassing the Caesars Forum ballroom in Las Vegas.

The 2,000-seat Dinner Show space opens up a space for attendees to enjoy cuisine and spectacular, rare performances bearing the unique cultural mark of the Pearl Island. Currently, Sun Group Corporation is joining hands with the world's leading art partner Cirque du Soleil to build a unique show for Phu Quoc as soon as the Convention Center comes into operation.
Multi-purpose performance house – intersection of culture – creativity – identity

The multi-purpose performance hall is in the shape of a circular block, covered with a Dragon scale shell, supported by 50 pillars symbolizing the 50 children following their father to the sea, evoking the legend of “The Dragon and the Fairy’s Children”. Not only serving APEC, this will be a “global cultural rendezvous”, a place to hold international film and art festivals and programs to promote Vietnam’s image to the world.
