On the evening of April 17, the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department ( Da Nang Police) said that they had brought the body of a person believed to be a foreign tourist from the bottom of a deep abyss in the Bai Bac area of Son Tra Peninsula (Da Nang) and handed it over to the authorities for further handling according to regulations.
According to initial information, on the afternoon of April 17, while patrolling the Son Tra peninsula area, authorities discovered a motorbike abandoned for many days in the Bai Bac area (near a resort).
Upon inspection, inside the car were identification papers of a foreign tourist, suspected to be involved in an accident.
Immediately after receiving the information, the military, militia, local police and the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Department urgently coordinated to deploy the search work.
However, the terrain of this area is extremely rugged, with steep stone embankments and deep cliffs making access to the scene very difficult.
Faced with that situation, the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department mobilized a special elite fire fighting and rescue team on land to assist.
Soldiers had to use a specialized pulley system, wear safety belts, and carry machetes to clear bushes and open a path down the abyss to reach the victim's area.
By the evening of the same day, the victim’s body was safely brought to the surface using a specialized pulley system. The scene was then strictly secured for investigation purposes.
Initial information identified the body as male, decomposing, the area where the victim was found was in a deep abyss of more than 30m.
