Viet Tri City is home to many traditional craft villages that have existed for a long time, closely linked to the daily lives and production activities of the people. These villages, which originated from traditional crafts and then developed into craft villages, have empowered the people to play a leading role in production, enhancing product value, increasing income, and contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
Currently, the city has several prominent craft villages such as: Doan Ket food processing village; banh chung and banh giay (traditional Vietnamese rice cake) making village; Nha Nit peach blossom making village; Tan Duc vegetable making village... contributing significantly to socio -economic development and changing the face of the city.
These days, peach growers in Nha Nit peach blossom village, Thanh Dinh commune, are preparing for a busy period of tending to their trees, pruning leaves to nourish buds, and ensuring the flowers bloom in time for the traditional Lunar New Year. Currently, the village has 129 households growing peach blossoms with 40,000 trees, covering a total area of 7.5 hectares. Some households have a few dozen trees, while others have several hundred.
As one of the suburban communes of the city, in recent years, implementing the National Target Program on sustainable poverty reduction, the Party Committee and the commune government have created all conditions to support and help people develop their economy, rise out of poverty, and contribute to effectively achieving the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and building new rural areas in the locality.

Quickly grasping customer preferences, in recent years, peach growers in the craft village have proactively invested in high-quality seedlings and applied new scientific and technical methods to planting, caring for, and shaping the trees. Many households have boldly invested in purchasing ancient and wild peach varieties, applying grafting techniques to produce high-quality products, generating incomes of up to hundreds of millions of dong per year. The efficient operation of the craft village has contributed to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people; currently, the entire commune only has 5 poor households, accounting for 0.18%, and 10 near-poor households, accounting for 0.35%.
Mr. Le Van Ly, head of the craft village, said: “The Nha Nit peach blossom craft village was established in 2013. Over time, to improve the quality of peach blossoms and bring high economic value to the people, the commune government and the village's technical team have encouraged and guided people to boldly renovate and replace some low-quality peach blossom varieties with those favored by the market, while also replanning the peach blossom planting area according to standards to improve quality and build prestige for the craft village.”
Benefiting from its strategic location along the Lo River dike, Hung Lo commune boasts two traditional craft villages: Doan Ket food processing village and Xom village, known for its traditional rice cakes (banh chung and banh giay). Over the years, the commune government has prioritized the development of these craft villages, investing in infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for them and cooperatives to thrive. As a result, several advantageous products have seen significant growth, increasing both in quantity and quality.
Hung Lo rice noodles have established a strong brand in the market.
To maintain and develop stably, the craft village has been operating in conjunction with the cooperative model, concentrating resources such as capital, human resources, knowledge, and experience to develop traditional products. A prime example is the Hung Lo Rice Noodle Cooperative, which operates effectively based on the local agricultural and food processing craft village. To date, the cooperative produces and sells an average of nearly 1 ton of noodles daily, which are popular in both domestic and international markets and are regularly displayed at trade fairs, available on e-commerce platforms, and in major supermarket and retail chains. Annual revenue reaches approximately 14 billion VND, providing regular employment for 28 workers with incomes ranging from 6-8 million VND per person per month.
Along with the food processing village, the traditional villages specializing in making banh chung and banh giay (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) continue to be maintained and developed by local people. Some families, like Mr. Nguyen Van Ninh's family – the village head – have even had three generations involved in the craft. Many products from these two villages have received OCOP 3 and 4-star certifications, increasing their value and competitiveness in the market.
To maintain and develop traditional craft villages, localities have actively promoted the dissemination of the Party and State's guidelines and policies on the development of craft villages and traditional crafts, as well as policies supporting the development of rural industries. This has created motivation for people to boldly invest in production, increase output, raise income, and rise out of poverty.
