Following Ho Chi Minh City, historical horror film Strawberry Sale Contract (Director Le Van Kiet, screenwriter Bui Kim Quy) just had its premiere in Hanoi on the evening of September 11.
The film features actors Lam Thanh My, Huu Vi, People's Artist Trung Anh, People's Artist Minh Chau, Lanh Thanh, Phuong Tra My, Le Tuyet Anh... and officially premieres today, September 12.
The exorcism scene in The Bride Contract is said to be similar to Grave Digging
Inspired by the novel of the same name by writer Thuc Linh, the film follows the young bride Nguyen Thi Nhai (Lam Thanh My) (played by) reveals the creepy secret of the Vu family.
To escape poverty, Mr. Tri (Trung Anh) - Nhai's father-in-law - made a deal with the devil, called a bride-selling contract. From here, many horrifying stories happened, the children of the Vu family's daughter-in-law all had to "pay tribute" to the devil.
To "save" his family, The Dinh (Huu Vi) called his younger brother The Giang (Lanh Thanh) who was hiding in the mountains to return to "end the hell on earth" right in his family.
Appearing with a bun, a serious face, and a body covered in mysterious tattoos, The Giang reminds us of the character of the magician Bong Gil played by Lee Do Hyun in Grave digging ghost .
The scene where The Giang exorcises the demon also easily reminds the audience of the exorcism of the shaman Hwa Rim (Kim Go Eun) in the above movie.
Reply Tuoi Tre Online , director Le Van Kiet said this is one of the most entertaining segments of the film to keep the audience interested.
"According to research in the old society, exorcists like The Giang were not rare. This is a cultural feature of many Asian countries, and no country has a monopoly on that cultural material," he said.
Director Le Van Kiet: "Vietnamese audiences are very willing to go to the movies"
Last year and this year are supposed to be two years of horror movie Vietnamese. Many movies hit Vietnamese theaters and among them, there are quite a few movies that have joined the hundred billion movie club.
However, many experts warn of the "overabundance" of horror films (or films with horror elements) in the Vietnamese film market.
After The Bride Contract , there are some horror movies scheduled to be released in theaters soon like Grave Reclamation, Ghost Bride …
Director Le Van Kiet said, "This requires reviewing the choices and needs of the audience. If the movie is good, people will come, regardless of genre."
He added with Tuoi Tre Online , Vietnamese audiences really want to see themselves as well as social stories and Vietnamese people on screen. That is the reason why Vietnamese audiences are very willing to go to the movies.
Audiences' tastes are also increasing. That requires filmmakers to come up with unique and new features in their films.
