Recently, a parent of Hong Bang Primary, Secondary and High School (Xuan Loc District, Dong Nai Province) posted on social media a picture of the money collected during a parent meeting. Among them, the "TV maintenance" fee of 100,000 VND/student made the parents angry.
At the parent meeting yesterday (September 15), some parents objected, saying that the TV is the school's common property, so why do parents have to pay for maintenance?
"We completely agree with contributing to improve the quality of teaching and learning for our children. However, collecting 'TV maintenance' fees of 100,000 VND/student is unreasonable. The TV has a clear warranty policy, but now there is an additional maintenance fee," a parent shared.
Mr. Pham Viet Thang, Principal of Hong Bang Secondary School, said that the school has just replaced the old 50-inch TV with a 65-inch smart TV this school year. The board of directors will work again to collect maintenance fees and provide specific information later.
According to Mr. Do Dang Bao Linh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training, non-public schools are free to negotiate tuition fees with parents. However, televisions are the property of the school and the school is responsible for warranty and maintenance to serve the learning needs of students.
"The Department will work with the school and make adjustments according to regulations," Mr. Linh affirmed.
