Melania Trump, wife of US President-elect Donald Trump, has announced a meme cryptocurrency ahead of her husband's inauguration on January 20.
In a post on social networking site X on the evening of January 19, First Lady Melania Trump announced the meme coin MELANIA with an address for users to buy.

Memes are images, videos , or sayings that go viral on the internet. In the cryptocurrency space, a meme coin is a piece of digital art or a shared cultural moment. The MELANIA meme coin's symbol is an image of Mrs. Trump, created for collectible and entertainment purposes.
The coin was created on the Solana blockchain network for its fast transaction speeds, low fees, and strong security. Mrs. Trump noted that this meme coin is not a financial or investment instrument.
CNBC cited data from CoinMarketCap , saying that as of the afternoon of January 20, MELANIA was trading at $11.16, up more than 50%. The market capitalization of this currency is $2.15 billion.
Previously, Mr. Trump also launched his meme coin called "Official Trump" on January 17 with an image of him raising his fist and the three words "Fight". By January 20, the value of the coin decreased by 20%, trading at 53.74 USD. According to Reuters, at one point, Mr. Trump's meme coin increased in price to 74.59 USD, with a total transaction value in 24 hours reaching 52.5 billion USD.
At least 200 million of these coins are already in circulation, and Mr. Trump has promised to release 1 billion Official Trump coins over the next 3 years.
Experts warn investors to be cautious when buying assets like the Trump digital currency. They say meme digital currencies are often volatile in value and are considered speculative tools. Trump and his wife's coins are seen as a way to show support for the digital currency sector. After the MELANIA coin was launched, the value of the Official Trump coin fell sharply by 40% in a short time.
