Faced with the reality that some female members of Chu A Thai commune (Phu Thien district) were scammed online, some of them were scammed out of hundreds of millions of dong, Ms. Bui Thi Van - President of the Women's Union of the commune is always struggling to find solutions for members to be more vigilant and not fall into "fraud traps".
After many nights of thinking, she came up with the idea of using the victims of fraud to create a communication product “Using Facebook safely”. The product won the first prize in the individual competition “Application of information technology in organizing association activities” organized by the Provincial Women’s Union.

Ms. Van shared: “Social networks have become popular in women’s lives. However, it also has the potential to be exploited and scammed by bad guys. Personally, I know 7-8 members who have been scammed, including the head of the women’s association. Therefore, I came up with the idea of making a product to promote this issue.
The women who were scammed were afraid and hid it from everyone, so I had to convince them to let me record a video with their faces hidden for the contest. Of the two cases recorded, one woman was scammed out of 78 million VND, and another woman lost 120 million VND in 2 days.
These are typical cases of online fraud such as: creating high-paying work-from-home opportunities for stay-at-home moms, winning valuable gifts and paying fees...
I hope that through this media product, women will be able to identify scams and avoid them. If they are scammed, they should report it to the authorities for support.”
The product is used to promote to all women's associations of the commune through Zalo, Facebook, YouTube. Ms. Van said that the Facebook page of the Women's Union of Chu A Thai commune currently has nearly 1,000 members. This is a very useful information and propaganda channel.
“Social networks support us a lot in providing timely information and propaganda to members. Before, we had to go to each village to hold meetings, mobilize and propagate, but now we only propagate in one village, so the other villages and hamlets can grasp the information. The page is also followed by men, so the Association's activities are more widespread, accompanying both genders,” said Ms. Van.
As the collective that won first prize in the contest "Application of information technology in organizing association activities", the Women's Union of Chi Lang ward (Pleiku city) also took the issue from real life and put it into the content of a communication product called: "Solutions to effectively implement the movement for ethnic minority members to change their thinking, practice thrift in spending, and rise up to escape poverty sustainably".
The video begins with a common story in women's associations in ethnic minority areas. It is the image of the association president going to the members' houses to call them to meetings, but only receiving a shake of the head with the reason that she has to help deliver a pig.
Ms. Tran Thi Sen - Chairwoman of the Ward Women's Union - said: "The ward has 9 women's associations, including 3 ethnic minority village associations. Due to the difficult life, women pay little attention to the activities of the Association. Therefore, applying information technology and innovating the form of the Association's activities is an urgent requirement to attract members.
Currently, most of the reports of the Ward Women's Union have used Powerpoint software with visual images. From there, the Union officials also created a question and answer game, integrating puzzles related to the issue of "black credit", incestuous marriage, saving in spending...
For each correct answer, the women received a small gift of encouragement, so they were very excited to participate. With this method, the propaganda information is concise, accompanied by visual images, so it is easy to reach the members, making the meeting more exciting, and members participate more actively."
The contest attracted 52 products from 31 groups and 21 individuals. The organizing committee selected communication products with good, creative and easy-to-apply solutions to replicate in order to improve the quality of the Association's activities.
This is also a practical activity to concretize the breakthrough of the 2021-2026 term "Application of information technology, safe social network connection in Association activities" and the theme of 2024.
Catching up with digital transformation
Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - Permanent Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union - said: Applying information technology in the activities of the Union is an inevitable trend of the era of the 4.0 industrial revolution.
In addition to the contest, the Women's Union also launched many activities to implement the theme of the year. The Union established a pilot model of "Confident women, integrated in cyberspace" to gather and attract female members who do not have the conditions to participate in the Union's activities directly.
Most of the Association’s meeting documents are provided via QR code scanning. Some conferences and trainings are held online, via Zoom, E-learning… to save on travel and document printing costs.

Implementing the theme of the year, the whole province has established 65 models of "Women's groups applying technology 4.0" and "Women transforming digitally" with 1,553 members. Women's Unions at all levels have established and maintained more than 1,366 Zalo groups, 486 Facebook groups, dozens of TikTok groups, and YouTube pages to help women's union members access information on activities and movements of the Union quickly and promptly.
At the summary ceremony of the implementation of the annual theme "Enhancing the application of information technology in the activities of the Association", the Standing Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union assessed: "Women's officials and members have gradually caught up with the digital transformation process, promoting initiative and creativity in production labor and Association work.
The Association's staff has improved their knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of their tasks, and is proficient in using basic software to help convey the content of the Association's movements and tasks conveniently and promptly.
Women members approach the digital transformation process, raise awareness of information technology applications in many fields, and identify harmful information.
Many members effectively apply information technology in start-up activities, business, and product promotion, thereby contributing to family economic development and improving the quality of life.
