Captured and lured by the enemy, but with the spirit of a communist, he resolutely refused to reveal his organization, accepting to sacrifice himself in a colonial prison. He was Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Hao, a shining example of revolutionary morality, loyalty, and indomitability in the history of the Phu Yen revolutionary movement.

Join the revolution early
Comrade Tran Hao was born on June 15, 1913 in Nho Lam village, Hoa Tuong commune, Tuy Hoa district (now Hoa Quang Nam commune, Phu Hoa district). His father died early, his mother remarried, at the age of 14, while in elementary school, Tran Hao had to drop out of school to take care of his 3 younger siblings, at the same time learn oriental medicine and become a very effective healer.
Tran Hao joined the revolution quite early. In 1933, he founded the Book and Newspaper Association and the Mutual Aid Association in Hoa Quang commune; in 1935, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in La Hai cell, Dong Xuan district.
As an enthusiastic, brave young party member with a medical profession, Tran Hao traveled to many places in the province to propagate the revolution. He organized party bases in the villages of Phuoc Hau, Nho Lam, Hanh Lam, Long Tuong, Phung Tuong, and directly served as Secretary of the Nho Lam - Hanh Lam Party Cell.
After a period of difficulty and stagnation, the party organizations in the province were gradually restored and developed. Dong Bo Sugar Factory, a large enterprise of colonial capitalists in Phu Yen, also organized a party cell. In November 1935, the provisional provincial party committee was established (for the second time) in Phuoc Hau village, Binh Kien commune. At this conference, Tran Hao was elected as the Secretary of the provincial party committee.
In 1936, during the peak of the activities of the Indochinese Democratic Front, legal and semi-legal revolutionary organizations developed strongly. In Phu Yen, mass organizations led by the Provincial Party Committee also developed widely.
The Plowing Association, the Planting Association, the National Language Propagation Association, the Democratic Youth Association, the Professional Women Association, the Family School Association, etc. operated effectively. Two intellectuals and dignitaries were nominated by the provincial Party Committee to run for the Central Vietnam House of Representatives and won. Many people signed the Petition and sent it to the Godart delegation from France to Indochina to learn about the situation.
In late 1939 and early 1940, Tran Hao mobilized a number of young people in Phuoc Hau, Lien Tri, and Ninh Tinh villages to establish family schools and private schools. In public debates, Tran Hao defeated the anti-revolutionary propaganda of political groups opposing the Party's policies.
Through many flexible and agile measures, the Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee has aroused the spirit of patriotism among the people, especially the youth. He directly led the people of Tan My, Phuoc Thanh, My Thanh villages, and Hoa My commune to fight against the soldiers of Dong Bo Sugar Factory who oppressed the farmers and workers there.
Tran Hao and the Provincial Party Committee skillfully organized business establishments that both provided finance and served as a place for Party communication and to develop revolutionary activities.
Actively and effectively working, in 1937, Tran Hao was added by the Central Region Party Committee to the Executive Committee of the Inter-Provincial Party Committee of Quang Nam - Quang Ngai - Binh Dinh - Phu Yen.
In September 1939, World War II broke out in Europe, the French Popular Front collapsed, the French colonial reactionaries in Indochina fiercely suppressed the revolution, democratic organizations were eliminated, and progressive newspapers were closed. In Phu Yen, many party members remained silent.
Tran Hao remained steadfast in his faith, persistently campaigned for revolution, kept in touch with revolutionary bases, and guided the masses in legal struggles against oppression and exploitation.

Sacrifice, keep the integrity of communists
On May 1, 1944, after the leaflet distribution on International Labor Day in Tuy Hoa district, Tran Hao was arrested by the enemy in Tuy Hoa district and then taken to Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh province for torture, but he still kept his communist integrity, did not confess and surrendered to the enemy. He also cursed the enemy directly and heroically sacrificed himself on June 16, 1944 in Quy Nhon prison.
Tran Hao's brave sacrifice made his compatriots, comrades in Quy Nhon prison and the people of Phu Yen wholeheartedly mourn and admire the communist's indomitable will. Upon hearing the news of Tran Hao's sacrifice, a revolutionary soldier being imprisoned in Quy Nhon prison wrote a poem Farewell to him:
Thunder struck my heart and it broke
When I heard the news of my friend's death
Brother Hao! So much resentment inside,
Tears welled up in anger
The whole Quy Nhon prison is the same
The waves of my heart are filled with sorrow
Cheering each other, standing together in one line
Fight together to destroy the cruel enemy.
He was robbed by the hungry death
Raise your arms and stand straight all day and night
The beatings were like storms and flying rains.
Add power two days and three nights.
But he still has a strong spirit.
Sacrifice to carve out the future
Deeply in my heart to all
Still in the chains of imperialism
Hey Hao!
His body turned to ashes
But the spirit remains clear over time!
Still alive with folk music
Of humanity on the flag of struggle.
The fascist army was full of sin and corruption.
Drink blood and swear we will never share the same sky
Wish to raise a super hero mind
In the realm of longevity, he smiled a pure smile.
In the introduction to the book Martyr Tran Hao, comrade Thai Phung Ne, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Secretary of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee, wrote: "The life of martyr Tran Hao is always engraved in the hearts of comrades and compatriots as a bright example of morality, qualities and integrity of a communist party member, a leader full of enthusiasm, dynamism, courage and indomitability...".
In recognition of the contributions and role of Provincial Party Secretary Tran Hao in the revolutionary movement in Phu Yen, after the August Revolution of 1945, Hoa Quang commune was named Tran Hao commune by the government at that time. In 1990, comrade Tran Hao was posthumously awarded the title of martyr by the State. His house was rebuilt by the local government into a memorial house and is a historical relic of the local revolutionary movement.
And now, Hoa Quang Nam Secondary School is honored to be named after Tran Hao - an excellent cadre of the Party, an excellent son of the People of Phu Yen.
