Reporting at the meeting of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the socio -economic situation and results in October and the first 10 months of the year; key tasks and solutions for November, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training Nguyen Van Hieu said that the Department is proposing the City People's Committee to assign the old District 12 People's Committee headquarters to convert its function into a school.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City proposed using the headquarters of the People's Committee of District 12 as a school (Photo: People's Committee of District 12).
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, recently 20 wards and communes have proposed reusing old police headquarters, People's Committees, and education and training departments to make new schools, in order to reduce pressure due to the increasing number of students in the area.
Mr. Hieu added that in Thoi An ward (old district 12) there are 4 middle schools but no high school, while this is an area with a large population.
Before implementing the two-level urban government model, on June 30, the People's Committee of District 12 sent a document to the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Finance of Ho Chi Minh City, requesting to use the headquarters of the People's Committee of District 12 (over 3.2 hectares) as a school.
Immediately afterwards, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City sent a document to the City People's Committee and the Department of Finance requesting to receive the headquarters of the District 12 People's Committee to use as an inter-level school.
“This headquarters is in a very beautiful location, suitable for building an inter-level school. In addition, local voters also reported that the project is deteriorating rapidly; if there is no early decision, it will be a waste. Therefore, I hope the City People's Committee will soon direct the transfer of this land to the education sector for management,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu.
The new Thoi An ward was established on the basis of merging Thoi An ward and Thanh Xuan ward (old district 12), with an area of 14.89km² and a population of more than 125,000 people.
In the first 10 months of the year, Ho Chi Minh City has developed a draft Action Program of the City Party Committee and a plan to implement Resolution No. 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training. Inspection of the situation at the beginning of the school year at educational institutions has been strengthened, focusing on the content of revenue and expenditure at the beginning of the year, administrative reform, activities of foreign language - information technology - life skills centers, application of information technology, digital transformation, implementation of school programs and extracurricular activities.
The work of fostering and providing professional training for the teaching staff continues to receive attention. The city has organized training courses on innovative teaching methods for continuing education teachers, deployed the interactive application "EDUi" for preschools, organized the launching ceremony of the team participating in the National Excellent Student Competition for the 2025-2026 school year and prepared for the Exhibition "50 years of Educational Innovation: Imprints of the times - Aspirations for the future".
