Chinese 'miracle drug' fruit floods Vietnamese market, priced at only 30,000 VND/kg

In recent years, jujubes have flooded the Vietnamese market in large quantities. Notably, despite being considered a “medicinal apple” or a “miracle fruit”, jujubes are becoming increasingly cheaper.

At this time, fresh or dried jujubes are sold everywhere in markets, stores and supermarkets. Accordingly, the price of fresh products is commonly at 30,000-70,000 VND/kg, the cheapest ever.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu - a fruit seller in Cau Giay ( Hanoi ) - said that at the beginning of the season, the price of jujubes was up to 130,000 VND/kg, then gradually decreased.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Hieu, a saleswoman at a large fruit store chain in Hanoi, the price of persimmons is only 1/3 cheaper than the same period last year. Compared to the beginning of the season, the price has dropped to only half. (See details)

Durian prices rise again

Durian prices are showing signs of increasing again. According to the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, durian export purchasing warehouses in the Central Highlands on October 4 announced the price of Dona (Monthong) durian type A at 100,000-105,000 VND/kg, type B at 80,000-85,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 10,000 VND/kg compared to the end of September.

However, a representative of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that although durian prices have increased, not all farmers can sell at high prices due to the rain, durian is waterlogged, not dry and not sweet enough, so it is only classified as class C, D, or even as a waste product with a price of less than 50,000 VND/kg. This type of product can only be pureed and used to process low-value products.
