On the evening of June 28th, Mr. Pham Cong Quoc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Nam commune (Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province), stated that by approximately 5 PM that same day, authorities and local residents had extinguished the fire in the acacia forest area within the commune.
Earlier, at around 4 PM on the same day, local authorities received information about a forest fire that occurred in the area east of Highway 129. This area consists of acacia trees belonging to local residents and a portion of the forest is part of the PACSA protection project.
The fire was raging fiercely.
Local authorities, including police, militia, military command, along with residents and forest rangers, quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.
Due to the area's abundant vegetation, dry leaves, intense heat, and strong winds, the fire spread rapidly, with thick smoke billowing over a wide area. Many people traveling on Highway 129 had their visibility obstructed by the smoke. The fierce blaze burned large areas of forest and undergrowth.
Authorities are currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire caused damage to large areas of coastal forest.
Thick smoke obscured visibility for vehicles traveling on Highway 129.
According to a report by the Quang Nam Provincial Forest Protection Department, from the beginning of 2023 to the present, 17 forest fires have occurred in the province, affecting an area of over 46 hectares. These fires mainly affect planted protective forests under the PACSA project in the eastern communes of the province.
