Sabalenka wins second consecutive US Open title

In the early morning of September 7, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Amanda Anisimova 2-0 (6-3, 7-6) in the women's singles final to become the first female tennis player to successfully defend the US Open championship since Serena Williams in 2014.

This was the second Grand Slam final of American tennis player Anisimova's career, and she received enthusiastic support from her home fans at Arthur Ashe Stadium. However, the fans' encouragement could not help Anisimova escape her "psychological ghost" in the final, as she made many errors, including 29 unforced errors and 7 double faults.

After 94 minutes, Anisimova ultimately lost 0-2 (3-6, 6-7) to world number one Sabalenka. However, this defeat seems to indicate an improvement over her record-breaking 0-2 (0-6, 0-6) loss to Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final two months ago.

Anisimova called it a "great summer" despite losing in the Wimbledon final and now the US Open. She said: "It's really been a great summer. Losing two Grand Slam finals in a row is great but also incredibly difficult. I think I didn't fight hard enough for my dream today."

Meanwhile, Sabalenka continues to assert herself as one of the greatest tennis players of the 21st century. She has now won four Grand Slam titles, matching the achievements of Kim Clijsters, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, Naomi Osaka, and Hana Mandlikova.

The 24-year-old Belarusian player also established an era of dominance on hard courts, reaching six consecutive Grand Slam finals on hard courts and winning four titles. She is also the first female player since Serena Williams (in 2014) to successfully defend her title at the US Open.
