Phuc Trach pomelos are currently in their peak harvest season. Huong Khe district ( Ha Tinh province) and relevant authorities are making efforts to implement various solutions to ensure this year's pomelo harvest is both bountiful and profitable, bringing a "sweet pomelo season" to farmers.

Pomelo harvest is abundant, with an expected yield of over 21,000 tons.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, thanks to adherence to technical measures, the 2023 Phuc Trach pomelo crop in Huong Khe was still considered a bumper harvest.

The estimated yield of Phuc Trach pomelos is over 21,000 tons.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Hai (Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) is delighted that the Phuc Trach pomelo harvest is bountiful.

In Huong Trach commune, with an area of about 12 sao (approximately 12,000 square meters), Mr. Nguyen Huu Hai's family in Phu Le village expects to harvest over 10,000 pomelos. Excited about the bumper pomelo harvest, Mr. Hai shared: "Currently, my family's pomelo orchard and those of other households in the area have begun their peak harvest season. To ensure quality when the product reaches the market, we select early-ripening fruits for pruning (unlike the mass harvesting as before). Thanks to guidance on digital transformation, most of our family's pomelos are now sold through social media. At the beginning of the season, the price of pomelos is quite stable and higher than in 2022, ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 VND per fruit.”

According to Mr. Hai and most grapefruit growers in Huong Khe, the drought in 2023 resulted in smaller-sized Phuc Trach grapefruits, but in return, the average sweetness was higher than in previous seasons. This is a very favorable condition for farmers to sell their products and affirm the quality of this specialty fruit.

The estimated yield of Phuc Trach pomelos is over 21,000 tons.

Phuc Trach pomelos in 2023 had a high sweetness level, creating favorable conditions for farmers to sell their products.

Mr. Nguyen Tri Dong, Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Huong Khe district, shared that to achieve a bountiful pomelo harvest with high quality, farmers have put in a lot of effort in caring for their crops. Currently, most households have mastered the skills of supplementary pollination, fruit thinning, and fertilizing at each stage of fruit development. In particular, many households have implemented VietGap, GlobalGap, and organic farming standards; invested in equipment and machinery to care for the pomelo trees, and ensured sufficient water supply during drought seasons… thanks to which the quality of Phuc Trach pomelos is constantly improving.

According to initial assessments, in the 2023 pomelo season, Huong Khe district had 2,768 hectares of pomelo orchards, of which 1,912 hectares were producing fruit. The total pomelo production was estimated at over 21,000 tons, equivalent to a value of 500 billion VND.

Expanding the market and promoting the consumption of pomelos.

The estimated yield of Phuc Trach pomelos is over 21,000 tons.

Leaders of Huong Khe district inspected grapefruit production and developed solutions to support sales.

To support consumption, contribute to increasing people's income, and affirm the value and uniqueness of Phuc Trach pomelo as a regional specialty, Huong Khe district has established a working group to promote and connect pomelo consumption. Simultaneously, it has issued a plan to implement communication and sales promotion activities…

Accordingly, Huong Khe district has identified the domestic market as the primary focus, prioritizing the maintenance of traditional markets; creating conditions for expanding into new markets in Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and other districts, cities, and towns within the province, while also aiming for export to international markets.

The estimated yield of Phuc Trach pomelos is over 21,000 tons.

Mr. Tran Xuan Loat (Tan Phu village, Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district) harvests pomelos to sell to traders.

According to Deputy Chairman of the District People's Committee Dang Tuan Anh, along with consumption through wholesale and traditional markets, the district is paying special attention to promoting the distribution of products into supermarket systems, shopping malls, convenience stores such as BigC, Co.opmart, Vinmart+...; e-commerce platforms (Postmart.vn, Shopee, Lazada, Sendo…) and social media platforms (Zalo, Facebook, Tiktok…). At the same time, the district is connecting and introducing organizations, individuals, businesses, and cooperatives in the area to new markets through trade fairs nationwide.

The district also strengthened its guidance, propaganda, and management to combat price manipulation that harms producers, especially small-scale producers; and paid attention to directing digital transformation, ensuring transparency of product information, and facilitating traceability.

Simultaneously, coordinate with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and other mass organizations to develop a specific plan for promoting and selling Phuc Trach pomelos. Strengthen state management of the issuance and use of geographical indication labels. Organize inspections to ensure the management and use of labels comply with regulations; prevent pomelos from other localities from being mixed in, which could affect the Phuc Trach pomelo brand.

The estimated yield of Phuc Trach pomelos is over 21,000 tons.

The Ha Tinh Farmers Support Center is actively connecting and promoting the sale of Phuc Trach pomelos.

Currently, the Farmers Support Center (Ha Tinh Farmers Association) is coordinating with the Huong Khe District Farmers Association to survey households growing pomelos according to VietGAP and organic standards to assess quality and develop a price list for the product, thereby promoting the connection and consumption of Phuc Trach pomelos. In particular, the center has sent an open letter to the Central Farmers and Rural Support Center of the Vietnam Farmers Association , which will then forward it to all 63 provinces and cities nationwide to facilitate consumption connections; it has also sent letters to relevant departments and agencies in the province.

The center also assigns specialized departments to organize live broadcasts of grapefruit orchards on social media platforms; creating videos, images, and documentaries of high-quality grapefruit orchards that follow proper production processes to promote and introduce Phuc Trach grapefruit products to customers nationwide. It effectively implements digital transformation in connecting and consuming agricultural products, creating motivation and encouraging farmer members to compete in labor and production.

At the same time, the Provincial Farmers' Association has focused on directing and promoting the role of all safe agricultural product stores in the province to support the connection and consumption of pomelos. In the early days of the season, the center has connected the consumption of over 5 tons of pomelos in markets in several provinces such as Binh Duong, Son La, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City...
