Sunrise at the foot of Mount Bromo
Among the more than 18,000 large and small islands in Indonesia, Java is one of the most special islands and a prominent destination in the journey to explore the country of thousands of islands. Coming to Java, of course, visitors should never miss Bromo - the most famous volcano here. Although not the highest in the Tengger mountain range, many visitors still use the word "special" for this mountain because it is an active volcano. Coming here to welcome the first rays of the morning sun is my most memorable experience when coming to Java island.
Cloud hunting on Bromo volcano
Mount Bromo is 2,392m high and is located in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
In the hearts of Indonesians, Bromo is a sacred volcano. The name Bromo is derived from the Javanese pronunciation of the name of the Hindu god Brahma, which means creator.
I started my cloud hunting trip on Mount Bromo at 1:30 am. We had to travel by special jeep to the top of the mountain and then hike quite a distance to reach the viewpoint. Sometimes I even had to crawl and cling to trees to climb a steep, sandy slope at my feet. From the viewpoint, I looked out into the vast space, right in front of me was the Tengger range hidden in the mist, occasionally seeing a column of gray smoke rising into the sky. Indonesia has two seasons, the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season with a lot of water will make you feel uncomfortable because of the persistent rain for several months. The dry season, suitable for tourism, lasts from May to October and is quite sunny. The scorching sun is also a challenge to explore this land. Although it is sunny during the day, the temperature drops at night, sometimes quite cold.
Bromo wakes up
Luckily, I came here on a dry season day and the moon was shining. The full moon illuminated the whole space. The stars filled the sky, giving me the feeling of a mysterious and romantic universe. I was even luckier when on that day, low clouds came from somewhere, forming a turbulent stream flowing down the valley at the foot of the mountain, and a few mountains in the distance rose up, full of mystery. Jeeps began to take tourists to the viewpoint, creating streaks of light running across the frame. I set up the camera in the freezing cold, my hands and feet still shaking. Very quickly after that, I seemed to forget the cold and was absorbed in taking pictures, absorbed in enjoying that golden moment at the beginning of the day.
New scenery on the way back
When the sun rises, Bromo has a different beauty than at night. The bright rays of sunlight filter through the sea of white clouds. Behind the foreground trees is a mountain that appears and disappears like a fairy tale painting. It can be said that enjoying a photo with your eyes is the most interesting thing that no camera can do. I lingered on this beautiful scene for a long time before turning back.
The car rolled through the pine forests on both sides of the road, each turn presented a new scene. The sun rose, the mist began to clear, the surrounding scenery gradually appeared. From the valley below, looking up, one could see the towering and challenging mountains. The car ran through the desert, the dust flying up in the dry, scorching sun was also a strange experience.
Starry Night in the Tengger Range
The route to the mountains in the Tengger range or the Bromo volcano itself is always challenging, but during the tourist season, it welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year. If you are a nature lover and an adventurer, this is a worthy destination for you to experience this summer - autumn.
