Will send about 130,000 Vietnamese workers to work abroad in 2024

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs is continuing to expand and develop a number of labor markets with good income and working conditions in Europe while opening a number of new markets.

According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, it is estimated that in 2024, about 130,000 Vietnamese workers will be sent to work abroad under contracts, reaching 104% of the plan (this year, the plan to send Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts is from 125,000 workers). Data reported by enterprises shows that the total number of Vietnamese workers working abroad in 9 months is 113,896 workers, reaching 91.11% of the yearly plan. Among them, Japan continues to be the market receiving the most Vietnamese workers with 56,566 workers, followed by Taiwan (China): 43,690 workers, South Korea: 6,276 workers, China: 1,704 workers, Singapore: 1,040 workers, Romania: 670 workers, Hungary: 449 workers and other markets. In September 2024 alone, 12,369 workers went to work abroad, including the following markets: Japan: 6,447 workers, Taiwan (China): 4,735 workers, China: 196 workers, South Korea: 165 workers, Romania: 155 workers, Singapore: 133 workers, and other markets.

One of the major amendments and supplements to the draft Law on Employment is to expand the scope of loans for working abroad, creating opportunities for workers to access preferential credit sources.

The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that the work of sending workers to work abroad for a limited period under contracts has received attention and direction. Specifically, the Ministry has developed an Action Plan to implement Resolution No. 225/NQ-CP dated December 31, 2023 of the Government to create favorable conditions for businesses to send workers abroad to work. According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, traditional labor markets (Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea) continue to be maintained stable and receive a large number of Vietnamese workers.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs continues to expand and develop a number of labor markets with good income and working conditions in the European region. Currently, the number of workers working in this market is not large, but the working conditions and income are relatively good. Vietnam and countries in the European Union have a friendly relationship and positive development cooperation, increasingly deep, effective and comprehensive, including the field of labor cooperation. This cooperation brings great benefits to each country. Currently, countries in the European Union need to supplement human resources, make up for the shortage of labor force due to population aging. Meanwhile, Vietnam is a country with a young population, needs to solve employment, vocational skills training, industrial working style. The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs is also promoting the development of a number of potential new markets, creating new opportunities for workers when choosing to work abroad. In September 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Australian Embassy in Vietnam announced the implementation of support for Vietnamese citizens to work in the agricultural sector in Australia under the Labor Mobility Program between Australia and Vietnam. Under the program, the Australian Government will allow up to 1,000 Vietnamese workers to work in the agricultural sector in Australia at the same time. Vietnamese workers participating in the Program can work short-term (from 6 to 9 months) or long-term (from 1 to 4 years). The job positions of Vietnamese workers only require low to semi-skilled skills in the agricultural sector such as crop cultivation, meat processing, seafood (including aquaculture) and forestry.

In addition, in the first 9 months of 2024, the work of selecting, training and sending workers to work abroad under contracts will be strengthened and managed more strictly. The work of inspecting and examining enterprises providing services of sending workers to work abroad under contracts and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers will be strengthened. The activity of sending workers to work abroad will recover positively, contributing significantly to solving employment problems associated with high income for workers.
