Hundreds of tons of vegetables and fruits have been transported from the South to the North by supermarkets to meet customer demand.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , many areas of rice and crops were affected by storm No. 3. Accordingly, 124,593 hectares of rice were flooded and damaged, concentrated in Thai Binh, Hanoi, Hai Duong, and Hung Yen. In addition, 22,047 hectares of crops and 6,887 hectares of fruit trees were damaged.
This has greatly affected the supply of vegetables and fruits to people in many places. To meet people's needs, supermarkets have increased the import of vegetables and fruits from the South to the North.
According to Central Retail Vietnam, in order to fully supply goods to provinces and cities affected by storm No. 3, the company's GO! and Big C systems have increased the supply of vegetables and fruits by 100% compared to normal days.
"Since last weekend, the company has prepared additional shipments of goods to the North. Accordingly, the average shipment from Da Lat to the Central and North is 40 tons/trip, now it has increased to 75-80 tons/trip," said a representative of Central Retail Vietnam.
According to this representative, as of September 9, Central Retail Vietnam has transported 3 shipments to GO! and Big C supermarkets in the North, with about 150 tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of all kinds. Regarding the selling price, this system said that the price remains the same as before the storm because it had prepared the goods in advance with partners in Da Lat.
Meanwhile, a representative of WinMart supermarket said that WinEco supplies 100 tons of clean vegetables to the Northern market every day, with stable prices, not increasing compared to the time before the storm. In addition, the 20% discount program for MEATDeli clean meat products and WinEco clean vegetables is still applied to WiN members.
Similarly, MM Mega Market, this system said it maintains the most stable supply, especially essential fresh items such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish... MM Mega Market has tripled the number of trucks transporting vegetables and fruits from the supply station in Lam Dong to the northern provinces (expected to be up to 7 trucks/week with a total of more than 40 tons of vegetables and fruits).
According to AEON Vietnam, in the short term, storm No. 3 may cause local impacts on suppliers, especially fresh goods. Specifically, for vegetables and fruits, heavy rains cause crops to be crushed and flooded. For products caught at sea, rough seas will make it difficult to fish offshore.
"These are only short-term difficulties. The company is still working with suppliers to transport vegetables from Da Lat to the North to meet consumer demand. We ensure adequate supply of goods, stable prices, customers can rest assured to buy enough according to their needs, without having to hoard or collect goods," informed Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hue - Director of Communications & External Affairs, AEON Vietnam.
According to Mr. Bui Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade , through reports from the Departments of Industry and Trade, the supply of goods and prices of essential goods are basically stable, with no major changes in prices, except for some types of green vegetables that have slightly increased in price due to difficulty in preservation.
