The match between Singapore and Hong Kong (China) will take place tonight (November 18) in Hong Kong. This is the match in the 5th round of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. The team that wins this match will officially have a ticket to the Asian Championship in two years.

That is why both sides played with great effort in this match. After only 15 minutes of play, nearly 48,000 Hong Kong spectators, present at Kai Tak Stadium in Kowloon (Hong Kong), were extremely excited after the home team's opening goal.
In this phase, Camargo crossed the ball from the right wing, allowing Matt Orr to squeeze in between Singapore's tall central defenders, heading the ball in to give Hong Kong a 1-0 lead.
After the goal, Hong Kong players actively played a very solid defense to protect their own net. This style of play caused Singapore a lot of trouble.

It wasn't until the second half that the situation changed for the Lion Island team. In the 64th minute, Izwan Shawal coordinated with his teammates, before he finished off the opposing goalkeeper, scoring to help Singapore tie the score 1-1.
Not stopping there, in the 68th minute, substitute Ilhan Fandi scored the winning goal for Singapore, 2-1. This victory officially helped the Lion Island team to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup Finals.
This is the first time since 1984 that Singapore has participated in the Asian Championship. But that time, the Lion Island team participated as the host team, not in the qualifying round.
Currently, Singapore leads Group C with 11 points, 3 points more than second-placed Hong Kong (China).
As the head-to-head result is the first sub-index to be considered if two or more teams are tied on points, Hong Kong is no longer able to catch up with Singapore, with only one match left in Group C of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Singapore is also the second team in Southeast Asia to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup, after Indonesia. The team from the archipelago got the ticket thanks to their entry into the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
