Lam Dong Department of Health established 4 teams to inspect food safety at school canteens.

From September 19 to 29, specialized inspection teams of the Lam Dong Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department conducted food safety inspections at school kitchens across the province.

In Lam Dong province, there are currently 1,598 collective kitchens in schools with a large number of boarding students and teachers using daily meals.

To effectively manage food safety in schools, it is known that before implementing two-level local government (July 1, 2025), state management of food safety in collective kitchens in schools will be managed by the People's Committees at district and city levels according to decentralization.

Mr. Trinh Van Quyet, Deputy Director of Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health, said: The Department is advising the Provincial People's Committee to complete the province's Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Safety and issue regulations on decentralization of state management of food safety in the province.

The Department has also requested the Department of Culture and Society of communes, wards and special zones to proactively establish inspection teams, coordinate with the Provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene to strengthen the inspection and supervision of food safety in the area. Focus on inspection of collective kitchens in educational institutions, and proactively inspect and supervise food businesses and street food inside and outside school gates.

While Lam Dong province has not yet issued regulations on decentralization of state management of food safety, units shall implement according to Circular 20 dated June 23, 2025 of the Ministry of Health on guiding the functions, tasks and powers of specialized health agencies under the People's Committees of provinces, centrally run cities and People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones.

Previously, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat also signed a decision to establish an interdisciplinary inspection team on boarding, food safety and hygiene, and non-budgetary revenue and expenditure for affiliated schools in the area.
