Even when the design was still on paper, the bridge was described by Italian television as a cultural fusion between Vietnam and Italy. This was not only because the work was designed by architect Marco Casamonti – the Italian design ambassador to Vietnam – but also because the bridge contains many cultural codes of the two countries. The "father" of the bridge, Marco Casamonti, once shared that the inspiration for the design of the Kissing Bridge came from Michelangelo's painting "The Creation of Adam" and the bridge being woven by birds in the legend of Ông Ngâu Bà Ngâu from East Asian culture.

The bridge has a total length of 800m, with two branches, the North Wing and the South Wing, forming a unified structure but not touching, separated by 30cm. According to the architects from Sun Group who directly participated in the project, building the Kissing Bridge with two separate branches over the sea was a major challenge. To put it into perspective, the Kissing Bridge has a capacity of over 5,000 people, equivalent to the size of a stadium, and there can be no error of even 1mm to create a perfect bridge apex.

The distance between the two branches of the bridge is designed to perfectly accommodate a hug, a kiss, or a friendly handshake. And importantly, this distance was carefully calculated so that on January 1st each year, the sunset over Phu Quoc will fall precisely between the two branches of the bridge, creating a magical moment for those lucky enough to visit the island at that time. Because of this, the bridge has been considered the most beautiful sunset viewing spot in the world since its construction.
