Exciting ASEAN Sports and Family Day in Geneva

On September 20, the ASEAN Sports and Family Day 2024 was held at the park in Grand-Saconnex ward, with the participation of more than 500 officials, diplomatic staff and families of permanent delegations of ASEAN countries to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations based in the "diplomatic capital" of Switzerland.

According to VNA correspondent in Geneva, in his opening speech, Philippine Ambassador Antonio Javier Teehankee affirmed that this year's event is an opportunity to further strengthen friendship, solidarity, cooperation and mutual support among members of the ASEAN community in Geneva, as well as an opportunity for colleagues and families to interact and share activities during the holidays.

At the event, the Vietnamese delegation enthusiastically participated in sports activities and mass games, while promoting Vietnamese cuisine and interacting with members from embassies and representative agencies of ASEAN countries in the area.

In addition, children of the Vietnamese delegation in Geneva also participated in performing traditional martial arts, combined with self-defense movements, receiving enthusiastic support from friends in the ASEAN community in Geneva.

After the competition, families participating in the festival enjoyed many typical dishes of each ASEAN member country and listened to traditional songs of the countries in the bloc.

Sharing with VNA reporters, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, the WTO and other international organizations in Geneva, affirmed that participating in each game, each sport, enjoying food and drinks at the festival is an opportunity for members to have more opportunities to feel and understand more about the culture, the country and the people of ASEAN member countries.

The Ambassador believes that this is even more meaningful for the children, the future generations who will continue and strengthen the friendship and solidarity of the ASEAN Community. Because here, they can meet and interact with friends of the same age from ASEAN countries, thereby equipping them with and expanding their knowledge about ASEAN and their regional community./.
