Sony returns with the high-end smartphone Xperia 1 VII

Sony has officially returned to the high-end smartphone market with the latest Xperia 1 VII model, right before the launch of the WH-1000XM6 headphones.

Priced at €1,499 in the European Union (EU), the Xperia 1 VII is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a brighter display, upgraded cameras and high-quality audio components from the Walkman line, promising to outperform its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI.

Available in three colors : Black, Green and Purple , the Xperia 1 VII is designed to replace the Xperia 1 VI with many notable improvements. It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which brings 40% increase in CPU, GPU and NPU performance. The 5,000 mAh battery remains the same but with optimal performance, which promises to allow the device to be used for up to 2 days thanks to the chip's 3nm manufacturing process.

The 6.5-inch LTPO FHD+ OLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate is now 20% brighter and smarter with a rear ambient light sensor that adjusts the color temperature. The Bravia OLED panel on the Xperia 1 VII is nearly identical to its predecessor but offers a better visual experience.

The highlight of the Xperia 1 VII is the upgraded camera system. The 48 MP (1/1.56 inch) ultra-wide camera not only allows for sharper shots at 16 mm focal length, but also functions as a macro lens. The 48 MP Exmor T main camera supports 24 mm or 48 mm native focal lengths, providing versatile shooting capabilities. The 85 - 170 mm telephoto camera retains the same 3.5 - 7.1x zoom capability as on the Xperia VI version.

In terms of audio, the Xperia 1 VII features components from the Walkman line that enhance the sound quality of wired headphones via the 3.5mm jack, although Sony hasn't released many details about this feature.

Phones offering a 3.5mm jack are quite rare in the high-end segment.

Running on Android 15 with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB internal storage options, the Xperia 1 VII will receive 4 OS updates and 6 years of security updates.
