During the early days of moving to the South, Anh Dung did not act in films but focused on opening an acting class with his close friend Hieu Nguyen and preparing for his conquest of the screen. In 2021, he appeared in the movie Gai gia lam chieu V and then Thien than ho menh. The most recent movie Anh Dung appeared in was Nguoi vo cuoi cuoi , released in November 2023, in the role of teacher Thien Luong. In this movie, Anh Dung reunited with Kaity Nguyen but only played a supporting role with a limited time.

However, after The Last Wife, the actor did not appear in any film or television projects, only occasionally appearing at events with his girlfriend Truong Ngoc Anh after the two officially announced their relationship at the end of April 2021.

Mr. Dung once shared with the media about his decision to move to Ho Chi Minh City to start a career while he was already established in Hanoi. He said: "I have had certain success with TV dramas through Living with Mother-in-law. However, I do not want to stop there. As a progressive person, I want to conquer the next steps in life. There is no place that can make TV dramas better than VFC in Hanoi, but I need to conquer other things. When I asked myself where to go, I decided to go to the South because Saigon is the land of cinema."

Mr. Dung said that when he first came to Ho Chi Minh City, he was invited by many manufacturers but he refused them all because he wanted to find new challenges to move up instead of going down compared to what he had done before, accepting to start over from the beginning.

Perhaps that is why Anh Dung missed the golden time to reach the mass audience as well as the ability to step up to the ranks of A-list actors of Northern television at that time with Manh Truong, Hong Dang.... Anh Dung's film projects, although they were big films shown in theaters, were all small roles, not enough to launch his name. From a famous actor of Northern television, for a long time after that, Anh Dung was almost only mentioned as the 14-year-younger boyfriend of Truong Ngoc Anh.

After a period of publicizing his relationship and making a fuss with his famous girlfriend, Anh Dung retreated into seclusion and lived a private life. He shared pictures and personal work less and less on Facebook and from June 2024 until now, he has not updated anything on his personal page. For more than a year, the audience has had almost no further information about Anh Dung in both work and private life.

As an actor with a bright appearance and a lot of potential to shine, Anh Dung's stagnation at the age of 35 makes many audiences regret and hope that one day he will soon return to the screen with both television and film films.
