The path of suffering
People in Hoa Loi ward are used to calling Cau Dinh street "Ben Lon" street or "road to prison", "road to vocational school" because this street starts from Ben Lon intersection (National Highway 13) to temporary detention camp No. 2 of Ho Chi Minh City Police, Ben Lon market, headquarters of the Professional Team of the Mobile Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police and a number of businesses and units.

The route is only about 2.4km long but the traffic is very crowded. In addition to two-wheeled vehicles, every hour there are hundreds of trucks and containers lining up to go back and forth. Because of the continuous traffic, the road is getting worse, directly affecting people's lives, affecting the aesthetics, traffic safety as well as urban security and order.

According to the reporter’s observations, many sections of the road are crisscrossed with potholes, dusty in sunny days, and stagnant water in rainy days, making it difficult for many vehicles to pass. On rainy or dark days, two-wheelers often fall over to avoid flooded potholes.

Day and night, trucks and containers carrying goods pass by frequently, destroying the road surface. The road serves the people, but recently, many container trucks have passed by frequently, causing the road to quickly deteriorate.

Trees planted in front of houses often have dust on their leaves on sunny days. To limit dust, on sunny days, Mr. NVT, a resident of Ward 2, often has to pump water to irrigate the road in front of his house.

Meanwhile, some eateries and roadside businesses are upset about the dust and foul odors coming from potholes. The owner of a breakfast restaurant has to constantly clean tables and chairs and cover food to limit dust. Customers do not dare to turn their faces to the street for fear of dust blowing directly into their faces.

Ms. HTT, the owner of a roadside pharmacy, shared: “I rented a space to sell medicine because this area is busy. However, the road is in a serious state of disrepair, affecting my business. I have to clean the glass cabinets and glass doors constantly because of the dust. Occasionally, I hear of vehicle accidents and collisions due to avoiding potholes on the road.”
There are plans to widen the road.
The deterioration of this "road of suffering" has been going on for decades. In 2019, after people continuously complained during voter meetings, this road was repaired and patched. However, after a few years... everything is back to the same.

Discussing solutions to the road degradation, Mr. Le Van Hong, Chairman of Hoa Loi Ward People's Committee, said that the road is currently severely damaged and the locality has an investment plan in 2025. In the immediate future, the Ward People's Committee will mobilize socialized resources from businesses to patch the road, creating convenience for people's travel.

Also according to Mr. Le Van Hong, the project to upgrade and expand Cau Dinh road was approved by the People's Committee of Ben Cat City (before the merger). The current investor is the Ben Cat Area Construction Investment Project Management Board.
Recently, the People's Committee of Hoa Loi Ward has invited people to meetings 3 times to deploy some project information as well as mobilize the clearance and handover of land for the project. However, there are still a few cases of disagreement. The People's Committee of the Ward will continue to mobilize to create consensus and soon hand over land for project implementation.
After completing investment preparation steps, the project will be implemented from 2025 to 2028.
Cau Dinh Street (before Tan Dinh 016 Street) has a route length of about 2.4km, the starting point of the route is adjacent to National Highway 13, the end point is adjacent to Dinh Than, Hoa Loi Ward. Along both sides of the route, it is expected to clear about 100 households. There are about 16 businesses regularly transporting goods through the route.
According to the approved project, Cau Dinh route has a hot concrete road surface structure, the route length is about 2.4km, the road surface width is 12m, the sidewalk width on each side is 3m, the roadbed width is 18m. The total estimated investment is about 195 billion VND, of which the cost of compensation and support for relocation of architectural objects is about 19.4 billion VND.
