Accordingly, Duong Quy steel bridge will be repaired, replaced, reinforced, maintained, and the steel structure will be cleaned; the rusted steel structures will be painted to protect them. The drainage system, roads at both ends of the bridge will be repaired and reinforced, landslide and damaged items will be repaired; and the traffic safety system will be completed.
Repairing existing damage on the bridge ensures the safety of the bridge and increases its operational life.
Specifically, replace damaged bridge deck panels; remove rust and repaint the entire structure of panels, truss bars, longitudinal beams, cross beams, and the bottom of the bridge deck panels; add temporary steel pillars to support the Bailey truss structure at mid-span positions to reduce the span and increase the load-bearing capacity of the truss structure; replace wooden railings with steel railings; replace and straighten warped and dented truss bars; jack up the Bailey truss to return it to its original support position.
Repairing the road at both ends of the bridge: Demolition of damaged cement concrete slabs on the road at both ends of the bridge, replacing them with new cement concrete slabs.
Drainage system repair: Replace damaged box gutter reinforced concrete panels with new reinforced concrete panels.
Repair and reinforce eroded and damaged items: Repair subsidence on both sides of the abutment; clear upstream and downstream flow of the bridge.
Supplementing the traffic safety sign system according to QCVN 4L2019/BGTVT.
The total construction investment is more than 3 billion VND from the additional central budget reserve fund according to Decision No. 1739/QD-TTg dated December 29, 2023 of the Prime Minister and the provincial budget. Implementation period: 2024 - 2025.
Due to being used for many years without being repaired, the Duong Quy steel bridge has seriously degraded, especially the bridge surface is severely damaged, causing unsafety for people and vehicles when traveling here. To ensure safety for vehicles traveling through the Duong Quy steel bridge while waiting for the completion of procedures and documents to implement the project to repair the damage to the Duong Quy steel bridge, on February 5, 2024, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee issued Document 649/UBND-XD directing the traffic diversion plan on the Duong Quy steel bridge.
Accordingly, passenger cars and trucks with a carrying capacity of more than 2.5 tons (according to the Certificate of technical safety inspection and environmental protection of road motor vehicles) are prohibited from traveling through Duong Quy steel bridge. The time is from February 5, 2024 until the completion of the repair work.
