According to former Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Senne Lammens is the missing piece that Manchester United have been waiting for for years and the first step in their journey to reclaim the trophies that have eluded Old Trafford.
After De Gea left the club in 2023, MU has consistently struggled in goal. Tom Heaton has only been a temporary solution, Dean Henderson hasn't been given clear opportunities, Altay Bayındır has been disappointing, and Andre Onana has become the target of criticism for a series of individual mistakes.
In that context, Lammens – the goalkeeper signed from Royal Antwerp for £18 million – emerged quietly but quickly made his mark. Mark Schwarzer, who has over 500 Premier League appearances, believes Lammens brought something that MU had been lacking: reliability and simplicity.
"He's a classic goalkeeper," Schwarzer remarked. "He's confident, controls the space, makes good decisions when coming out of his goal, and most importantly, minimizes mistakes. Sometimes we forget the fundamentals of a good goalkeeper. Lammens came along and simplified everything."
According to Schwarzer, Lammens' consistency has helped the Manchester United defense play with more confidence. High balls in the penalty area are no longer a constant worry, because the defenders know that the goalkeeper behind them is ready to rush out and deal with them.
Just a few weeks after joining the "Red Devils," Lammens won the hearts of Old Trafford fans. Many supporters even compared him to the legendary Peter Schmeichel and composed a song specifically to cheer him on. For MU, this reassurance in goal could be the foundation for a new chapter of success.
