The Vietnamese women's team kicked off their title defence campaign at the 2025 AFF Women's Championship with a match against Cambodia. Before that, Thailand had a 7-0 win over Indonesia and took the top spot in the group.
Vietnam women's team dominated, opening the score from minute 7
In this match, the Vietnamese women's team completely dominated, controlling the ball 70% and making 11 shots on target.
As soon as the ball rolled for 7 minutes, Duong Thi Van opened the score for the home team with a close-range header, when Bich Thuy's free kick bounced off the crossbar. Coach Mai Duc Chung's team opened the score, became excited, continued to dominate and quickly scored 3 goals in less than 10 minutes.
In which, Van Su rushed from the second line, shot from a distance to increase the score to 2-0 in the 11th minute. Hai Yen successfully executed a penalty in the 14th minute, before Nguyen Thi Van increased the gap to 4 goals in the same half with a tricky shot in the 17th minute.
Huynh Nhu assists for Vietnam women's team
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team quickly overwhelmed their opponents when they returned to the field. In the 51st minute, Truc Huong scored to raise the score to 5-0 after an assist from Van Su. In the 60th minute, Thai Thi Thao headed the 6th goal for the Vietnamese team from Huynh Nhu's precise cross.
During the remaining time, Thanh Nha was also brought onto the field to increase the attacking power of the Vietnamese team. The home team continued to dominate the game but did not score any more goals, despite creating many significant opportunities.
With a big win over Cambodia, the Vietnamese women's team with 3 points only ranked second in group A, because Thailand had the same number of points but had a better secondary index of +7.
In the next round, Vietnam and Thailand will face each other on August 12.
