Thai Nguyen: When policies "touch" people's lives

Amidst the myriad of difficulties of the economic transition period, Thai Nguyen still maintains the direction of “inclusive development – ​​no one is left behind”. From policies supporting housing, livelihoods, vocational education to infrastructure, the province’s poverty reduction policies have truly touched people’s lives, changing difficult areas.

Government and people agree

The total capital of the National Target Program (NTPP) for sustainable poverty reduction in the province for the 2021 - 2025 period reached 1,167 billion VND, of which the central budget was more than 1,113 billion VND and the local budget was more than 53 billion VND.

By June 30, 2025, the whole province had disbursed 74.74% of the plan; in which, priority was given to investment in particularly difficult communes in old districts such as Pac Nam, Ngan Son, Vo Nhai... From the province's attention, 55 essential infrastructure works on traffic, irrigation, schools, medical stations, cultural houses... in localities were newly built and upgraded, helping more than 13,000 households benefit, including 8,300 poor households.

Along with that, 391 production development and livelihood diversification projects were implemented, bringing jobs and stable income to 8,832 households, more than half of which are poor and near-poor households. From 2022 to 2024, the multidimensional poverty rate of the province decreased from 10.29% to 5.46%; the ethnic minority area alone decreased by nearly 8.7%, exceeding the planned target and ranking first in the Northern midland and mountainous region.

In localities of Bac Kan province (formerly), the plan to eliminate temporary houses for 4,979 households has also been implemented, all of which have started construction, reaching 100% of the plan, including 235 households of people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households living in mountainous areas.

One of the most obvious marks is the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households and meritorious people. Since April 2025, Thai Nguyen province has basically completed the goal of "no more households living in temporary and dilapidated houses", an achievement of profound humanistic significance, contributing to strengthening housing criteria in new rural construction.

In Dong Luong village (Cho Moi commune), which used to be a "lowland" of poverty, the concrete roads to every alley have now changed significantly, industrial clusters and forest product processing factories have come into operation, creating stable jobs for hundreds of workers.

From 133 households in the village, now there are only a dozen poor households, a vivid proof of the vitality of the right policy. In the mountainous communes of the old Ngan Son and Pac Nam districts, education is given attention, new and spacious classrooms are built, children are able to study fully, medical services are more accessible, and many households have risen to become typical production models.

Organic tea production models not only help hundreds of households escape poverty but also contribute to shaping the Thai Nguyen tea brand.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thai Nguyen province, Nguyen My Hai, the most important factor in poverty reduction is the strong and close leadership of Party committees and authorities at all levels. “Where the Party committees take practical action, the authorities closely monitor and promptly resolve difficulties, there will be clear and sustainable poverty reduction results,” Mr. Hai affirmed.

At the same time, Thai Nguyen pays special attention to promoting the role of the people as the main subject from the planning stage, participating in monitoring to enjoying the results. People are no longer "supported objects" but become "companion subjects", creating trust, transparency and spreading the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement.

The province also promotes the application of digital transformation in the management of poor and near-poor households; updates data on digital platforms, ensures accuracy and transparency of information, and avoids omission or duplication of beneficiaries. This not only helps management work more effectively but also increases fairness and transparency of policies.

Towards sustainable multidimensional poverty reduction

Entering a new phase, Thai Nguyen is determined to reduce poverty in depth, taking people as the center, science and technology and digital transformation as the driving force.

The province continues to prioritize infrastructure investment for disadvantaged areas, replicate effective production models, link agricultural development with community tourism, OCOP and the "One Commune One Product" program. Along with that, solutions to improve the quality of vocational education, expand preferential credit, and support rural startups are being implemented synchronously. Tens of thousands of rural workers have stable jobs in wood processing factories, electronic components, textiles, etc. This is the direction to open up stable livelihoods, contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and promote labor restructuring.

The program “For the poor - No one left behind” continues to spread widely, honoring good examples and initiatives in the community. Many businesses, social organizations and kind-hearted individuals have accompanied local authorities in building houses, supporting livelihoods and equipping vocational skills for the poor.

Impressive results in poverty reduction in the 2021-2025 period have created a solid foundation for Thai Nguyen to confidently enter a new stage of inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.

Sustainable poverty reduction is not only a socio-economic goal, but also a commitment of responsibility and humanity of the Party Committee and the Thai Nguyen government towards the people. When policies are on the right track, resources are managed transparently and people truly become the subject of change, the journey of "escape from poverty" is also the journey of rising to become rich, creating a bright future for the homeland.
