Due to the inferior goal difference against Hong Kong (China) U17 women's team, Vietnam U17 women's team must win against this opponent to top the group and win a ticket to the final round of the U17 Asian tournament.

Pushed into a must-win situation, coach Okiyama Masahiko and his team entered the match with high determination. However, the Hong Kong U17 women's team showed that they were a better organized and physically fit opponent than Guam, the first opponent of the Vietnam U17 women's team.

In the first 10 minutes, the U17 women's defense of Vietnam had to work hard when goalkeeper Cam My twice made excellent saves after dangerous shots from the away team.

After being pressured in the first half, the U17 Vietnam women's team gradually regained control of the game, controlled the midfield well and organized many sharp attacks. The home team created consecutive opportunities in the first half.

In the 30th minute, Hong Thai headed the ball dangerously, forcing goalkeeper Yau Hazel to dive to save it. After that, Phuong Thao, Phuong Nghi, Minh Anh and Thao Nguyen all had dangerous shots but could not convert them into goals.

In the second half, coach Okiyama Masahiko made more personnel changes to increase the attacking power. Pressure was continuously created on the Hong Kong U17 women's field. In the 67th minute, that effort was rewarded. Hai Yen accelerated strongly, passed two opposing defenders before firing an accurate diagonal shot, opening the score for the Vietnam U17 women's team.

With the advantage of leading, the home team continued to maintain the initiative, creating more opportunities but could not increase the gap. In the end, the Vietnam U17 women's team won 1-0, completing the qualifying round with two wins, registering their name in the 2026 AFC U17 Women's Finals as the top team in Group D.

Speaking after the match, coach Okiyama Masahiko said: “First of all, we won two matches, thereby completing our goal of qualifying for the finals. The whole team played with concentration and did not concede a goal in both matches. I am very proud of the team’s fighting spirit and efforts.”

The only goal scorer in the match, Hai Yen, could not hide her joy: “I am very happy that the team has made it to the next round. The whole team prepared well for the match and everyone tried their best. There were times when we did not understand each other, but we discussed to coordinate better in attack and scored a goal.”

Revealing the instructions of coach Okiyama Masahiko during the break, Hai Yen shared: “The coach said if you try hard, you can do it. The team always plays with the spirit of never giving up. If the whole team is united, we will have good results. We had many opportunities but did not take full advantage. I am very proud to have brought victory to the team.”
