On May 23rd, information from the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province indicated that the entrance exam for 10th grade at Lam Son Specialized High School will take place over two days, May 26th and 27th, 2023. Thanh Hoa province has established two examination boards, with 72 examination rooms for 1,562 candidates.

The Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province also mobilized 217 officials and teachers to participate in the examination at two examination centers: Lam Son Specialized High School and Dao Duy Tu High School (Thanh Hoa City) to ensure that the examination takes place safely, openly, transparently, and in accordance with regulations.
It is known that for the 2023-2024 school year, Lam Son High School for the Gifted will enroll 11 specialized classes with a total of 385 students (35 students per class). Specifically, there will be 2 classes each for Mathematics and English; and 1 class each for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, Literature, History, and Geography. The Informatics specialized class will have 18 places available from candidates who took the Informatics exam as their specialized subject, and 17 places available from candidates who took the Mathematics exam as their specialized subject.

The specialized subject groups with the highest number of applicants are: Informatics with 164 applicants for 35 available slots (of which 36 applicants applied for Informatics as their specialized subject for 18 available slots, and 128 applicants applied for Mathematics as their specialized subject for 17 available slots); Literature with 249 applicants for 35 available slots; English with 309 applicants for 70 available slots…
To participate in the exam, each candidate must take three common subjects (Vietnamese Literature, Mathematics, and English) and one specialized subject exam according to their registered preference. The time allotted for the common subjects is 120 minutes for Vietnamese Literature and Mathematics; 60 minutes for English; and 150 minutes for the specialized subjects. All exams are essay-based. The specialized English exam also includes a listening comprehension section. The Informatics exam is a computer programming test. The common subjects have a weighting of 1; the specialized subject exam has a weighting of 2.
