Sitting on a buffalo cart, listening to the creaking sound of the wheels and the steady rhythm of the buffalo hooves, tourists stroll around the peaceful countryside at the foot of the Ho Dynasty Citadel - a UNESCO-recognized World Cultural Heritage - in Tay Do commune (Thanh Hoa province). The buffalo cart service organized by local households is "causing a fever", with a journey of about 30-45 minutes around the stone wall, winding through rice fields and trails, stopping at an ideal location to look at the citadel gate and take photos.

Explore : around the wall, slowly through the rice fields
The buffalo cart path takes visitors along a slow pace around the stone wall, then turns into small paths crossing the fields. The highlight of the journey is the moment of stopping at a favorable position to look straight at the city gate, amidst the green rice fields inside the wall – a picture of the countryside that is both open and quiet.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Duong (a tourist from Hanoi) shared the feeling of returning to the memories of the countryside: "Sitting on the buffalo cart, it feels like returning to the countryside space with the creaking sound of the wheels, the steady sound of the buffalo's footsteps, the sound of the wind blowing through the bamboo rows, the chirping of children calling each other in the distance... All create a special experience that tourists can hardly find in other tourist destinations."

Culture and community: simple life beside heritage
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Director of the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Center, visitors can choose from many forms of sightseeing such as bicycles and electric cars, but the buffalo cart is the most popular experience and is organized by the households living around the heritage site. The combination of heritage tourism and community tourism helps visitors not only enjoy the scenery but also touch the daily life of the people living around the citadel.
Mr. Long said: “Not only does it bring income to the people, the buffalo cart service also contributes to promoting the image of the Ho Dynasty Citadel in a close, everyday way. If in the past, tourists mainly came to visit the heritage and then left, now they stay longer, explore rural life, enjoy specialties such as rice cakes, Lam tea, bamboo tube rice, etc. The combination of heritage tourism and community tourism is opening up a direction for sustainable development for the locality.”
