Pepper prices fell in today’s trading session partly due to forecasts of increased pepper output in the new crop. It is estimated that output could reach 190,000 – 193,000 tons, up about 10% compared to the previous crop, provided there are no major natural abnormalities. This upcoming supply puts some pressure on current pepper prices.
The Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA) believes that pepper supply and demand remain balanced. However, external factors such as taxes and technical barriers are forecast to have a strong impact on global market strategies. Stricter regulations on quality and origin will reshape the market share structure.
Pepper prices and import demand are forecast to continue to increase until the end of 2025. However, when production is likely to recover significantly in 2026, pepper prices will be under downward pressure. Enterprises need to proactively manage their inventory and supply to take advantage of the increased demand at the end of the year.
VPSA recommends that businesses should make reasonable use of reserves to promote transactions. Strategic factors such as export taxes, transportation costs, and regulations on origin are forecast to reshape the global market share structure. Despite facing many fluctuations, Vietnam still maintains its advantages thanks to stable quality and a long-standing export system.

World pepper prices today
Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 7,004 USD/ton (up 0.21%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,657 USD/ton (up 0.22%).
The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at USD 6,175/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper fell sharply to USD 9,000/ton (down 2.17%); the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 12,000/ton (down 2.44%).
Today, Vietnam black pepper price is traded at 6,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,700 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,250 USD/ton.
At the end of November, pepper prices in Asia fluctuated in different directions. India reduced pepper prices due to the weak Rupee, Indonesia kept them stable due to the balance of supply and demand. Malaysia increased domestic pepper prices. After a period of strong increases, Vietnam adjusted pepper prices on December 2.
The world pepper market is still in a long-term shortage cycle. Global production has dropped sharply, to only about 430,000 tons. Supply from Vietnam, India and Indonesia has all decreased. Although demand in the US has decreased by 30%, the new tax exemption policy from November 13 is expected to help improve consumption and pepper prices.
Vietnam’s new crop output is expected to be around 153,000 tonnes, continuing to decline compared to last year. Despite the low total supply, pepper imports for re-export purposes increased by 32%, mainly from Brazil. Inventories remain low as supply is not enough to offset exports, maintaining the tension on pepper prices.
IPC forecasts that global pepper output in 2025-2026 may increase slightly to 533,000 tonnes if the weather is favorable. Pepper prices may come under downward pressure in 2026 when supply recovers. Factors such as logistics costs, taxes and rules of origin continue to influence the international pepper price strategy.
