According to statistics from Song Hieu Agricultural Forestry Company Limited, this year's storms have caused hundreds of hectares of 4-6 year old acacia forests to collapse in Nghia Dan, Quy Hop and Quy Chau Forest Enterprises.
Not only crops were damaged, the forest product transportation system - the "blood vessel" of production activities - was also severely affected. More than 30km of forestry roads were eroded, some bridges were completely washed away. Total damage was estimated at more than 6 billion VND, putting great pressure on the unit's production plan.

In sub-area 177 of Quy Chau commune, many machines and workers were mobilized to repair the damaged forestry road. A representative of Quy Chau Forestry said that the storm had caused 8.8km of road in sub-areas 182, 191 and 188 to be severely eroded.
As soon as the weather cleared, the unit made every effort to fix the problem and has now completed more than 50% of the repair work. “Wherever the road is built, we bring in machines to clear the fallen acacia trees and immediately dig holes to plant forests. It is expected that this area will replant more than 20 hectares of forest and plant 130 hectares of new spring forest. Currently, the unit has proactively nurtured more than 40,000 quality acacia seedlings,” said the representative.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoang - Chairman of the Board of Members of Song Hieu Forestry and Agriculture Company Limited shared: "Favorable weather is the golden time for us to mobilize human resources and means to restore damaged forest areas and prepare for the new planting season. As for the repair of forestry roads, we have completed about 15/30km, however, many sections were completely washed away by floods, bridges and culverts were damaged, causing repair costs to increase, estimated at more than 6 billion VND".
Forestry roads play a particularly important role, not only serving the transportation of forest planting materials but also serving the exploitation and consumption of acacia wood. Therefore, road maintenance and repair are considered by the company as a priority task to ensure uninterrupted production activities. Currently, the company is directing forest farms to urgently dig holes, clear the ground cover, focus on replanting the fallen forest area and prepare to plant more than 200 hectares of new forest this year.

In parallel with the work of overcoming damage caused by storms, Song Hieu Forestry and Agriculture Company Limited is focusing on implementing the planning of two raw material forest production areas in the direction of improving economic efficiency and minimizing risks in the face of market fluctuations. Accordingly, the large timber forest area is oriented to be planted in an 8-10 year cycle, with an average output of 180-250m³/ha, bringing in an average income of up to 250 million VND/ha, serving deep processing and creating high added value. In addition, the company arranges small timber forest areas with a 5-6 year cycle to quickly recover capital, maintain a stable source of income and proactively respond to natural disasters.
To effectively implement the above strategy, the company pays special attention to the work of varieties and technical processes. Song Hieu has cooperated with the Vietnam Forestry Science Institute to test and produce many high-quality tissue-grown and cutting-grown acacia lines such as AH1, AH7, BV523, BV434, BV10, BV16, and at the same time tested the tissue-grown eucalyptus lines including 3229, U6, U72, UP99, Tc4. This diversification of seed sources is considered an important step, helping the company proactively develop varieties suitable for the soil conditions of each region and improve the quality of planted forests.

The Company has invested nearly 2.5 billion VND to build 5 new hybrid acacia nurseries combined with tissue culture acacia production at its affiliated forestry farms. The nurseries are equipped with covers, water-electricity systems, automatic misting systems and standard drainage ditches. From the ground treatment, bed making, soil selection, potting, to care, disease prevention and nursery export, all are strictly implemented according to the procedures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Seed Institute.
In particular, all seedlings for planting must meet TCVN 11570:2016 standards. The growth of acacia varieties is closely monitored. This approach is helping Song Hieu Company build a stable variety system, suitable for local climate and soil conditions, creating an important foundation for improving productivity and efficiency of planted forests in the coming time.

Despite suffering many losses due to natural disasters, Song Hieu Forestry and Agriculture Company Limited is striving to overcome difficulties, simultaneously implementing infrastructure restoration, forest care and developing new planting areas. With a production strategy associated with breed innovation, technical application and focusing on sustainable development, the company aims to soon stabilize production, ensure raw material sources for the wood processing industry and contribute to the sustainable forest development of Nghe An province.
