Hue City receives the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Hue Nam Palace Festival"

On March 30, the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City held a ceremony to receive the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage "Hue Nam Palace Festival".

At the ceremony, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hue City Phan Thanh Hai summarized the general and special features of the Dien Hue Nam festival.

Accordingly, the Hue Nam Palace Festival has gone through a long process of formation and development. The first stage only took place within the Hue Nam Palace, then later with the participation of Hai Cat villagers (Long Ho ward, Hue city) and gradually became widely popular among the people.

Nowadays, the traditional festival of Hue Nam Temple carries the characteristics of the Holy disciples worshipping Mother Goddesses in Vietnam; becoming a typical cultural product of Hue land. Although it has gone through many different stages, Hue Nam Temple festival still takes place regularly twice a year, in the third and seventh lunar months.

The important rituals in the festival are the welcoming ceremony of the Holy Mother and the deities at the 352 Chi Lang Temple through the procession by road and waterway; the Cao Nieu ceremony; the Chanh Te ceremony at Hue Nam Temple and Hai Cat communal house; religious activities, performing the Hau Dong ritual on the altars.

Hue Nam Temple Festival is a form of cultural activity and folk beliefs, expressing people's faith in the spiritual space, expressing the morality of "remembering the source of water" and admiration for the gods through specific gratitude activities.

On December 10, 2024, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued Decision No. 3981/QD-BVHTTDL to include the traditional festival "Hue Nam Palace Festival" in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. This is a common heritage of the community, held by the community and joined hands to protect and promote sustainable values. After receiving the certificate of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Hue city will issue projects and plans to protect and promote the value of this heritage in the context of contemporary society.

After the welcoming ceremony, the procession, local people and tourists from all over boarded boats to move from Nghinh Luong Dinh to Hue Nam Palace, officially opening the March festival. Today and tomorrow, at Hue Nam Palace, rituals will take place such as the main ceremony, praying for national peace and prosperity; pilgrimage; welcoming the Holy Mother and the Four Palaces Council to Hai Cat communal house...
