Recently, a delegation from the Vietnamese Embassy led by Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam paid a working visit to Plzen, the fourth largest city in the Czech Republic.
At the meeting, the Plzen city government expressed its interest and desire to promote local cooperation with Vietnam.
Mayor of Plzen, Mr. Roman Zarzycky also acknowledged the contributions and integration of the Vietnamese community here.
On behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam expressed his joy to visit Plzen, the peaceful and ancient city of the Czech Republic.
In the context of Vietnam and the Czech Republic looking forward to celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1950-2025), the Ambassador assessed that the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries have developed positively in all fields, in which local cooperation between the two countries has received attention and promotion from high-ranking leaders.
On the basis of the good bilateral relationship, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city proposed that the two cities establish a cooperative twinning relationship, focusing on the strengths of both sides in the fields of education - training, tourism, and labor.
Mayor of Plzen Roman Zarzycky thanked the delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy for their attention and visit to the city.
Mr. Zarzycky emphasized that the city of Plzen attaches importance to developing relations between the two countries and with localities of Vietnam.
Mr. Zarzycky acknowledged the proposal to establish a sister relationship with Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi city; assessed that the two sides have a lot of potential for cooperation, especially with the foundation and educational quality of universities in the area.
Besides, Mayor Zarzycky expressed his appreciation for the Vietnamese community in the city for their practical contributions to the local society.
According to him, the Vietnamese community in Plzen not only has successful businessmen but also always supports the city government in specific circumstances, of which a typical and noteworthy example is during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Zarzycky said that with a population of about 3,500 people, accounting for about 40% of the number of foreigners in Plzen, the Vietnamese community is an important foundation and bridge to help promote relations between the Czech Republic and Vietnam.
Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam personally thanked Mayor Zarzycky and the Plzen city government for their attention and creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in the city to integrate and develop.
The Ambassador also expressed his hope to soon receive feedback on the proposal to establish a sister-city relationship between Hai Ba Trung district and Hanoi city; and respectfully invited the Mayor and the working delegation of Plzen city to visit and work with the leaders of Hanoi city at an appropriate time.
During the working trip, the delegation of the Vietnamese Embassy visited and met with the Vietnamese community in the city of Plzen.
Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam acknowledged and highly appreciated the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, efforts to integrate with the local community as well as the hearts of overseas Vietnamese in Plzen city who always turn towards their homeland.
The Ambassador emphasized that the Vietnamese community in Plzen has many successful businessmen, always making positive contributions to consolidating and strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
Along with many meaningful activities and movements, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam praised the efforts in organizing, maintaining and developing the Vietnamese language center in Plzen city over the past 10 years.
The Ambassador encouraged the teaching staff at the center to make efforts to overcome difficulties, try to maintain and promote Vietnamese language teaching and learning activities for the second, third and future generations to continue to preserve and pass on the Vietnamese language and culture.
Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam also expressed his belief and hope that the Vietnamese community in Plzen city will continue to promote its role as an example of solidarity and actively look towards the homeland to spread to the entire Vietnamese community throughout the Czech Republic.
