Thanh Phu: A strong step forward

BDK - On April 30, 1975, the long resistance war of the Vietnamese people ended with the victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The country entered a new era - an era of peace, unity, the people being masters and working together to build and develop. For Thanh Phu, that moment also marked a major turning point. It was the transformation from a resistance base to a land of development aspirations. Looking back half a century, Thanh Phu is not only proud to be a place that made an important contribution to the resistance war against the US to save the country, but also marked a strong transformation, rising up in the process of innovation and integration.

Fierce resistance

The past 50 years are a vivid testament to the vitality, courage and intelligence of the Party Committee, government and people of Thanh Phu district. This is a place where people always maintain the spirit of attack, always putting the interests of the homeland and country above all else.

Thanh Phu is known as a steadfast and indomitable land - a place that directly fought and was also an important rear base receiving weapons and food from the North to support the Southern battlefield via the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea. Glorious feats such as the Gia The battle in An Nhon, the battles of "Phuong Hoang TG 1", "Song Than 5", "Bau Net Thuong Giap", "Sa Mu Tran" in Thanh Phong have gone down in history as symbols of the courage and indomitable will of the Thanh Phu army and people.

During the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, Thanh Phu promptly reinforced a local army company for the province. At the same time, the district mobilized forces to surround the outposts, preparing for the moment of seizing power. By noon on April 30, 1975, when the liberation army entered the Independence Palace, the Saigon puppet government declared its surrender, the resistance forces in Thanh Phu had surrounded the entire enemy defense system in the locality. When President of the Republic of Vietnam Duong Van Minh declared his surrender and handed over power, it marked the day of complete liberation of Thanh Phu. This land officially turned a new page.

Overcome difficulties and rise up

Inheriting and promoting the indomitable tradition of the heroic homeland, right after the liberation day, together with the whole country, the Party Committee and people of Thanh Phu embarked on the task of healing the wounds of war and rebuilding the homeland. Although the district had to overcome a series of difficulties and obstacles in all aspects due to the severe consequences of the war, with the continuous efforts over the past 50 years, especially since implementing the Party's renewal policy, the Party Committee, government, people and army of Thanh Phu have achieved many important achievements in the fields of economy , culture, society, national defense and security.

Chairman of Thanh Phu District People's Committee Dao Cong Thuong said that from a poor district with an economy mainly dependent on traditional agriculture , the district has developed strongly, especially since the renovation (1986). From 2000 to now, Thanh Phu has risen to be on par with other localities in the province in many important indicators. Average income per capita reached over 82 million VND/year. The economic structure has shifted positively. Notably, high-tech agriculture, especially the high-tech shrimp farming model, has reached over 1,480 hectares. The district strives to exceed the target assigned by the province by mid-2025.

In addition, the industrial - handicraft, trade and service sectors have recorded many changes. The district has planned the K22 Industrial Park in An Nhon commune and 2 industrial clusters in Thanh Phong and An Dien. Trade and service activities have improved. In particular, coastal eco-tourism is increasingly developing, gradually affirming its role as a key economic sector. Thanh Phu commercial center, telecommunications - transportation infrastructure have been invested in upgrading and connecting smoothly.

The “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program achieved positive results with 41 products achieving stars. Of these, 3 products achieved 4-star provincial level, affirming the quality and value of local agricultural products in the market.

Prosperity in all fields

With high political determination, Thanh Phu district has achieved many remarkable results in building new rural areas (NTM). To date, 100% of communes have met NTM standards; of which, 6 communes have met advanced NTM standards, 3 communes have met model NTM standards. The district is completing procedures to recognize NTM district standards in 2025 - an important step in the process of rural modernization.

Education, health, culture and society have many clear changes. The rate of schools meeting national standards is more than 73%. The network of school libraries and the learning encouragement movement have developed widely. 100% of communes have health stations meeting national standards. The rate of universal health insurance exceeds 98%. Cultural and sports institutions have been invested in, improving the spiritual life of the people. Traditional festivals, folk arts, and historical relics have been restored and preserved, contributing to preserving local cultural identity.

Social security is guaranteed. The poverty rate has decreased from 6.71% to 2.5%, thousands of houses of gratitude and love have been awarded in the past 50 years. The district currently has 646 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers who have been awarded and posthumously awarded.

Overcoming many difficulties and achieving achievements, the Party Committee and people of Thanh Phu today enter a new stage with a confident and proactive attitude of integration. The achievements after 50 years of liberation are the foundation for the district to continue comprehensive innovation. With a clearly defined goal: Building Thanh Phu into an advanced new-style rural district, moving towards a modern coastal city, and being the economic and social growth pole in the East of the province.

In addition to economic development, the district also focuses on building a strong Party and political system, protecting the ideological foundation, improving the effectiveness of the administrative apparatus, and promoting digital transformation. Education on revolutionary traditions for the younger generation has been strengthened, aiming to arouse pride and responsibility in the cause of building the homeland.

Looking back 50 years, Thanh Phu has not only written a glorious history page of a land with a profound revolutionary tradition but also affirmed itself as a dynamic locality with great development potential. From the historical milestone of 1975, Thanh Phu today is steadily transforming itself, ready for new steps forward, continuing to contribute to the strong rise of the province and the whole country.
