Ms. Ellis, 38, admitted to helping issue false statements and documents. Prosecutors allege that she attended a meeting with Georgia lawmakers where former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani made false claims about election irregularities. The meeting was aimed at persuading lawmakers to reject Mr. Joe Biden’s victory in the state.

Speaking in court, the defendant admitted that she failed to do her job in checking the false claims of election fraud by the former White House's lawyers. "I look back on this entire experience with deep regret," Ellis said. Under the plea agreement, Ellis could face up to five years of probation and a $5,000 fine.

Mr Trump has been indicted but has pleaded not guilty. It is one of four criminal cases involving him.

Meanwhile, on October 24, the former president attended a court hearing in New York state regarding a civil lawsuit against him and his children for business fraud.

Former lawyer Michael Cohen, who has become a vocal critic of Trump, testified against the former president. Upon arriving at the courthouse, Trump called Cohen a “liar,” referring to his plea to tax evasion and lying to Congress during an investigation into his former client’s ties to Russia.
