Competing to build Ho Chi Minh City into the top 100 livable global cities

(Chinhphu.vn) - Over the past 5 years, the patriotic emulation movement of Ho Chi Minh City has continuously developed. Many emulation movements have been enthusiastically responded to by the people, bringing about deep impressions and great effectiveness. In many areas of social life, Ho Chi Minh City has had many creative, practical and effective emulation movements, which have been replicated in many provinces and cities across the country.

On October 25, the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized the first Ho Chi Minh City Patriotic Emulation Congress (2025-2030).

Attending the congress were comrades: Tran Luu Quang, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Vo Thi Anh Xuan, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President; Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, former Vice President; Huynh Dam, former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Le Quoc Phong, member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Nguyen Van Duoc, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Honoring typical patriots

Also attending were representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, leaders and former leaders of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and all 478 collectives and individuals who are typical advanced examples, representing thousands of typical advanced examples in the city's patriotic emulation movement in the period 2020 - 2025.

In his opening speech, Comrade Nguyen Manh Cuong, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that over the past 5 years, the patriotic emulation movement of Ho Chi Minh City has continuously developed. Many emulation movements have been enthusiastically responded to by the people, bringing deep impressions and great effectiveness, contributing to embellishing the tradition of patriotism, solidarity, dynamism and creativity of the people of Ho Chi Minh City.

In many areas of social life, Ho Chi Minh City has had many creative, practical and effective emulation movements, which have been replicated in many provinces and cities across the country. Many emulation movements have carried out major campaigns and movements launched by the Central Government, ministries and branches have been effectively implemented by all levels and branches.

According to comrade Nguyen Manh Cuong, the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Patriotic Emulation Congress is an opportunity to summarize and evaluate the results of the patriotic emulation movement in the period of 2021-2025. At the same time, it honors many heroic collectives and individuals and 478 typical advanced faces, representing thousands of outstanding examples in all areas of the city's life.

The Congress also commended heroic collectives and individuals, and emulation fighters nationwide, and acknowledged their efforts, initiatives, and breakthrough solutions in work, study, scientific research, production and business, digital transformation, and social security care.

The Congress set out the direction and tasks to continue innovating and improving the quality of emulation and reward work in the next 5 years 2025-2030. Accordingly, the City continues to strongly promote the achieved results and experiences; arouse the tradition of patriotic emulation, the tradition of solidarity, dynamism, creativity, efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, promote the patriotic emulation movement to be substantive and effective, promote the successful completion of the city's goals and tasks in the next period.

Thereby, building Ho Chi Minh City into a smart, fast-developing, sustainable city, maintaining its role as the economic locomotive of the whole country and becoming a new megacity of Southeast Asia.

Ho Chi Minh City takes the lead, entering a new era with the whole country

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that the city is entering a new stage of development, with a larger scale, more potential but also facing greater challenges. Therefore, the patriotic emulation movement needs to continue to innovate and create, becoming a strong source of inspiration to bring the Resolution of the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress into real life.

Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc suggested that in the next 5 years, emulation movements must focus on building a clean and strong Party organization and political system, perfecting a streamlined and effective political apparatus model. Along with that, it is necessary to build a team of "intelligent, courageous, dedicated, honest, innovative" cadres, wholeheartedly serving the people.

The city needs to mobilize all resources, effectively exploit potentials and advantages, strongly develop science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation to promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development.

The goal is clearly defined: By 2030, Ho Chi Minh City will be in the top 100 livable global cities, with the world's leading innovation ecosystem and high income; by 2045, it will become an international megacity of Southeast Asia, in the top 100 best cities in the world.

The patriotic emulation movement must be closely linked to the responsibility of the leader and the actual results of each locality and unit. In addition, it is necessary to innovate the growth model, restructure the economy towards taking science and technology as the main driving force, promote the model of "3 regions - 1 special zone - 3 corridors - 5 pillars" to create new breakthroughs for the city.

At the Congress, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc launched the patriotic emulation movement of Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2025 - 2030 with the slogan: "Solidarity, innovation, creativity, emulation to build Ho Chi Minh City as a pioneer, together with the whole country entering a new era".
