Specifically, by late afternoon on October 27, the water level of the Huong River continued to rise, threatening the safety of the Bach Ho railway bridge ( Hue City). To protect the project, the railway industry urgently mobilized 19 stone-carrying wagons (nearly 700 tons) to block the bridge to increase the load, avoiding the risk of being swept away by the strong current.

Railway leaders said that sending trains to "hold the bridge" is an emergency solution, often applied during heavy rains and floods, to help protect important works and ensure safety for the national railway.

This is the second time the railway industry has had to dispatch a train to “hold the bridge” during the flood season this year, proactively responding to natural disasters and ensuring smooth rail traffic. Previously, in early October, the railway industry dispatched a 300-ton train to hold the bridge in Bac Giang .
Bach Ho Railway Bridge was built in 1908 when the Hue - Quang Tri railway line was established. The bridge is more than 300 m long, with an iron structure and a railway track in the middle for trains to pass through. Both sides of the bridge are for two-wheeled vehicles. During the war, Bach Ho Bridge was damaged and has been repaired.
Today, Bach Ho Bridge still plays an important role as the only railway route, connecting the two banks of the Perfume River.
