On the evening of September 1, Colonel Luong Ke Diem, Commander of the Phu Yen Provincial Military Command, confirmed that Major Truong Hong Ky (42 years old), Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Song Cau Town Military Command (Phu Yen) had died after his brave act of saving two drowning people.
The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. on September 1. At this time, at Dong Be beach in Vinh Hoa hamlet, Xuan Thinh commune, Song Cau town, a drowning incident occurred. When discovering two people being swept away by waves, while on duty, Major Truong Hong Ky quickly swam out to save the two people.
Both people were rescued, but due to the big waves, Major Truong Hong Ky was exhausted and could not swim to shore. Afterwards, local people helped bring Major Truong Hong Ky to shore to perform first aid and took him to Song Cau Town Medical Center for emergency treatment, but he did not survive.
Major Truong Hong Ky's body has been returned to his family for funeral arrangements.
According to Colonel Luong Ke Diem, Major Truong Hong Ky's act of saving people while on duty was very brave. The Phu Yen Provincial Military Command will verify and report to superiors to implement policies for Major Truong Hong Ky and his family according to regulations.
