Model village of Dao people in Quy Mong commune

An Phu village, Quy Mong commune, home to 162 households, 98.7% of whom are Dao ethnic people, used to be a poor, isolated and deprived area. Thanks to the attention and investment of the State and its own internal strength, An Phu has risen to become a bright spot in the new rural construction movement, a vivid demonstration of the strength of the Party's will and the people's hearts.

An Phu today is green with rice and cinnamon, dotted with solidly built houses. Mr. Trieu Tien Chau, a party member with more than 50 years of Party membership, recalls: “In the past, the road to the village was a forestry road, slippery when it rained, making it difficult for motorbikes to travel. Electricity was unstable, and water was scarce. The Dao people lived mainly on the hills and forests and grew rice, corn, and cassava, working all year round “to the ground, to the sky” but still did not have enough to eat.”

“To escape poverty, along with the State’s investment and attention, we must rely on internal resources, and make people understand and agree. Therefore, the top priority is to propagate and mobilize people to build infrastructure, change the structure of crops and livestock, and choose key crops for economic development. If we want people to believe, cadres must be exemplary, and party members must take the lead in movements,” Party Cell Secretary Trieu Tien Hoa shared.

Taking advantage of the State's investment support through programs and projects such as Program 135, preferential loans, especially the new rural construction program, the Party Cell, the Front Working Committee and village organizations have grasped the reality to propose appropriate solutions in leadership, direction and implementation, especially in building infrastructure, developing the economy, eliminating poverty and increasing income.

By doing a good job of propaganda, mobilization and exemplary leadership of cadres and party members, villagers have actively donated land, relocated structures, trees, crops, contributed labor and funds... to harden inter-commune and inter-village roads; national grid electricity and clean water have been brought in to serve people's lives.

Improved infrastructure has opened up opportunities for economic development. To ensure food security, the village mobilized people to promote intensive cultivation of 18 hectares of rice, grow crops on 4 hectares of fields in Khe Hoang and Khe Muong fields...; at the same time, take advantage of the strength of the hills and forests to develop cinnamon trees.

Over the years, the cinnamon area has increased rapidly. On average, each household in An Phu has 3 hectares of cinnamon, bringing in over 30 billion VND in revenue each year. From cinnamon, people have capital to do business, build houses, buy means of transport, send their children to school...

Coming from potential strengths, but to exploit effectively, we must mention the support resources from the State's policy capital, with the average outstanding debt of the whole village regularly about 5 billion VND. Mr. Trieu Tien Thanh said: "Through mass organizations, households have access to preferential loans with low interest rates. From there, we invest in growing cinnamon, buying machinery, improving our lives."

With the policies of the Party, the State, the locality and their own efforts, up to now, 80% of households in An Phu village are well-off or rich, with only 9 households remaining in multidimensional near-poor status, due to old age, lack of labor and illness. Most households have built solid houses, many of which are large and beautiful; many households have invested in trucks, excavators, harrows... to serve production. Although it is a rural area, An Phu has nearly 30 households in the village that have bought cars for transportation.

With economic development, the material and spiritual life, health and education of the Dao An Phu people are increasingly concerned. Up to now, 100% of households have bathrooms and hygienic toilets; 100% of households have access to clean water. The health insurance coverage rate in the village is 98.2%. Families comply well with population and family planning work, pregnant women are monitored, provided with medical care and fully vaccinated. Children are given attention to their education when 100% of school-age children go to school. In particular, implementing the Campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", annually evaluated, 94.4% of households in the village have achieved the title of "Cultural Family", of which 70% have achieved the title for 3 consecutive years. The preservation of traditional culture, especially the Dao ethnic script, is maintained and promoted. The sports and cultural movement is strongly developed. In the village, there are 2 volleyball teams, 1 sports club, 1 cultural and artistic club, and 1 effective community digital transformation team.

Thanks to the efforts and achievements, in 2021, An Phu village was recognized as a model new rural area. Ms. Trieu Thi Lan shared: “I have never seen my village as beautiful as it is now. The houses are spacious, the children are fully educated, and everyone lives together in harmony. We are very happy!”

From difficulties, An Phu village has risen strongly, becoming a bright spot in the new rural construction of Quy Mong commune. That is a clear proof of the power of consensus - when the Party's will is in line with the people's will.
