The match between Vietnam and Iraq is the second match of Group F, taking place at 7:00 p.m. on November 21 at My Dinh National Stadium.

According to the AFC's assignment, the main referee will be Mr. Al Marri Abdulla (Qatar). The two assistants are Khalaf Khaled and Alshammari Faisal (Qatar). The fourth referee is Mr. Albadowe Ahmad Bin Ahmad from Singapore.

Before being appointed to officiate the Vietnam-Iraq match, Mr. Al Marri Abdulla was the VAR referee in the match between Vietnam and Australia, which took place on September 7, 2021, within the framework of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at My Dinh Stadium.

According to statistics from Soccerway, in the past 5 years, referee Al Marri Abdulla has participated in a total of 38 matches, including 3 international friendly matches such as Iceland-Estonia, Sweden-Finland, Oman-Ecuador. Notably, in these 38 matches, Mr. Al Marri Abdulla did not issue any red cards.

Before facing Iraq, the Vietnamese team will play the opening match of the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup at the Philippines' home ground on November 16.

According to the competition format, in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia, the two teams finishing first and second in each group will qualify for the third qualifying round and the right to participate in the Asian Cup. The opportunity for the Vietnamese team to achieve this important goal is very high if the players play at their best.

In Group F, Iraq is considered the strongest opponent and will be a big challenge for the Vietnamese team. In the last 4 matches against Iraq, the Vietnamese team did not win any match, losing 3 of them.

Therefore, the match with the Iraqi team at My Dinh Stadium is very important for coach Philippe Troussier and his team.

In addition to the strong Iraq team, the Vietnamese team can completely achieve favorable results against the remaining two teams, Indonesia and the Philippines, to aim for second place in Group F.
