Vietnam Sports Delegation supports people in provinces affected by storms and floods

On the afternoon of December 3, at the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Department, Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games, on behalf of the Vietnam Sports Delegation, presented the donation money to the people in localities that suffered heavy damage due to storms and floods.

Before leaving for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation launched a fundraising campaign, demonstrating the spirit of "mutual love and support", accompanying people in disaster-hit areas to overcome difficulties. The atmosphere of the reception at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front was solemn and warm, spreading the profound humanitarian message of the country's sports industry.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports Department, Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the 33rd SEA Games said that recently, responding to the call of industry leaders and organizations such as the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Sports Department has deployed many activities towards the central region and localities affected by natural disasters.

“The Department has mobilized cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in the entire industry to join hands in support, with some units contributing a day’s salary. We also organized sports exchange activities to raise funds, contributing to sharing the losses and damages with the people,” Mr. Minh shared.

In particular, right before entering the 33rd SEA Games campaign, the spirit of solidarity and humanity was spread even more strongly among the Vietnamese Sports Delegation. Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh said that athletes, coaches, experts and officials of the Delegation voluntarily donated a total of 116.5 million VND to people in flood-affected areas.

“This is the sincere sentiment of the entire Vietnam Sports Delegation. We hope that the amount of money, although not large, will help share some of the difficulties and help people stabilize their lives soon,” he said.

The 33rd SEA Games is an important event for Vietnamese Sports. The Vietnamese Sports Delegation participated with 1,165 members, including 842 athletes, 189 coaches and 19 experts; competing in 47/66 sports, corresponding to 443/573 events.

The Delegation’s goal is to win 90 to 110 gold medals, continuing to maintain its position in the leading group of the region. The fundraising campaign right before the departure day further demonstrates the image of a sports delegation that not only strives for achievements but also has a strong sense of responsibility towards the community.

Receiving the donation, Mr. Cao Xuan Thao - Head of the Social Work Department, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front expressed his respect for the gesture of the Vietnam Sports Delegation. He affirmed that all the donations from ministries, branches and people across the country will be transferred to the right recipients, for the right purposes and in the shortest time.

"We are committed to timely allocation so that people have more resources to rebuild their lives and quickly overcome the consequences of floods," he said.
