Faced with the situation of water meters being continuously stolen, Quang Ngai Provincial Police have directed local police to identify the thieves.
On that basis, Nghia Chanh Ward Police discovered Pham Le Anh Tung as the subject who committed the act of stealing the water meter.
At the police station, Pham Le Anh Tung said he used to be an employee of Quang Ngai Water Supply and Construction Joint Stock Company. At the end of 2024, Tung resigned.
During his time working at the company, Tung knew that many water meters had copper cases so he could steal them to sell as scrap.
Taking advantage of the darkness, Tung rode his motorbike along the streets looking for copper-cased water meters to steal. Then Tung sold these water meters to scrap collectors to get money to spend.
"I waited until midnight to steal a water meter. I used to work at a water supply company so I know this type of meter very well, so I stole it very quickly," Tung confessed.
Nghia Chanh Ward Police are consolidating records to handle the theft of Pham Le Anh Tung.
