On the afternoon of October 30 (local time), General Chinh attended and spoke at the 8th Future Investment Initiative (FII) Conference in Saudi Arabia - an event likened to "Davos in the desert".
Speaking at the conference "Davos in the desert", the Prime Minister highly appreciated the theme "Infinite Horizons: Investing today, shaping tomorrow". This will be a good opportunity to exchange, share and propose investment cooperation initiatives, overcoming all limits towards a sustainable development future.
The Head of Government recognized that the world is tending towards polarization of political order; diversification of product markets; greening of production and business; digitalization of all human and social activities. This affects every country, region, every field, and every citizen.
Do not politicize development investment
This reality requires all parties to join hands to solve the problem, invest effectively and responsibly, and orientate towards the future. In particular, it is necessary not to politicize development investment and to encourage investment, especially in science and technology, human resources, digital transformation, green transformation, and climate change response...
Citing Vietnam's reality, the Prime Minister said that from a poor, backward agricultural country that experienced 40 years of devastating war and was besieged and embargoed for 30 years, Vietnam has made tireless efforts to steadfastly innovate, integrate and develop its economy.
To date, Vietnam has risen to be among the 34 largest economies in the world; the top 20 economies in terms of trade, having signed 17 free trade agreements, opening its market to over 60 countries and territories.
Therefore, Vietnam hopes that partners and investors will promote their pioneering role and guide future development.
In particular, it is necessary to accompany, support, help, promote cooperation and investment in developing countries and poor countries, "leaving no one behind".
In the relationship with Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the "Look East" policy of the Middle Eastern countries with priority given to Vietnam. Therefore, he called on partners to invest and do business in Vietnam, especially in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things, renewable energy, smart cities, smart infrastructure, smart governance, etc.
Recalling the proverb of your country "One hand does not make a sound"; Vietnam has Ho Chi Minh's ideology: "Unity, unity, great unity - Success, success, great success", the Prime Minister wishes to strengthen investment cooperation, towards "Endless horizons", for a world of safe, sustainable and prosperous development.
The key for Vietnam to attract investment and transform energy
After his speech, the Prime Minister participated in a discussion session with Ms. Zanny Minton Beddoes, editor-in-chief of The Economist magazine. In response to questions about Vietnam's position as a gateway to Southeast Asia for Middle Eastern countries; as well as Vietnam's strategy to welcome the wave of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, implement the green transformation strategy and commit to Net Zero, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam is building an independent, self-reliant economy associated with deep, substantial and effective integration.
Therefore, Vietnam clearly identifies the importance of digital transformation, technology application, and improving the country's competitiveness.
Accordingly, the Strategy for the Development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 was issued with clear goals and roadmap to make Vietnam a pioneer in the technology field in the region.
Regarding the huge resources to implement the energy transition in the next 10 years in Vietnam, the Prime Minister suggested that donors and investors increase investment cooperation and support Vietnam to continue perfecting institutions and policies to implement the commitment to net zero emissions.
In some areas such as electricity, transportation, and agriculture, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam is ready to make the transition.
When asked about Vietnam's vision and choices for development, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will always adapt and harmonize the interests of all parties. With Vietnam's concerns and expectations, the head of the Government believes that strategic views, innovative thinking and appropriate vision to encourage investors will be the key for Vietnam and investors to "work together, win together".
