The milestone of having a nuclear power plant in Vietnam by 2030 is a specific goal mentioned by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Head of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Power Plant Construction, when chairing the first meeting of the Steering Committee.
The head of the Government emphasized the spirit of urgency in implementing work, running and lining up at the same time, gradually perfecting while doing, not being perfectionist, not being impatient.
According to him, the Party and State's policy on developing nuclear science and technology is very clear, including the policy of building nuclear power plants, contributing to meeting the demand for clean electricity, especially with the target of double-digit GDP growth, electricity growth must be 15-18%.

In particular, in the new era of the nation, the era of strong, civilized and prosperous development, according to the Prime Minister, there must be breakthrough science and technology sectors and fields, including the field of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, including nuclear power, nuclear medicine, etc.
The Government leader clearly stated the goal of completing the construction of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant within 5 years, from which to determine the roadmap and work of each year so that by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Party's founding, we will have a nuclear power plant.
"Once you have a goal and roadmap, you must have a clear mindset, high determination, great efforts, and decisive and effective actions. You must complete each task," the Prime Minister emphasized and requested a clear assignment of people, tasks, time, responsibilities, and products.

Directing a number of urgent tasks, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to urgently adjust and supplement necessary planning, to be completed before February 28.
Regarding human resources, Vietnam currently has about 400 employees in the nuclear power sector. The Prime Minister assigned EVN and relevant agencies to immediately focus on this workforce, clearly identify training needs, and report and propose immediately.
Along with that, according to the Government leader, it is necessary to form a specialized, professional organization to implement this nuclear power plant project and prepare for other projects in the future.
He also noted the need to review and report to competent authorities on building specific mechanisms and perfecting institutions on taxes, credit, land, and attracting human resources...
Regarding the task of preparing infrastructure, the Prime Minister assigned Ninh Thuan to be the investor, calling for public-private partnership, attracting investment... to exploit Thanh Son airport (Ninh Thuan) for civil use. Along with that, it is necessary to prepare infrastructure for transportation, electricity, water, culture, education, sports... to meet the needs of building factories and serving the human resources to implement the project.

The Prime Minister also assigned tasks to agencies in implementing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA); Ninh Thuan proposed and implemented work related to site clearance and policies for people to give up land for the project.
Emphasizing the importance of time, intelligence and decisiveness as the decisive factors for success, the Prime Minister asked the members of the Steering Committee to promote a sense of responsibility, promptly deploy work and prepare for the second meeting of the Steering Committee scheduled for mid-February.
Previously, on January 10, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 72 to establish the Steering Committee for the construction of nuclear power plants.
The Steering Committee is responsible for directing the continued implementation of the investment policy for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project; directing the inspection, urging the implementation and advising and proposing solutions to resolve difficulties in the process of implementing the construction of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant.
The Steering Committee also directed the amendment, supplementation and completion of relevant legal regulations to meet the requirements of nuclear power development, ensuring quality, safety, security and efficiency; directed research and development of Vietnam's nuclear power development program to report to competent authorities for approval.
The Steering Committee will regularly report to the Prime Minister on the implementation of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project investment and assigned tasks.
