Keep up with and accompany the innovation process
On April 16, in Hanoi , the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association organized a workshop with the theme "Literature and Arts of the Capital 50 years after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025)" to evaluate achievements and limitations; propose practical tasks and solutions to build and develop the capital's literature and arts in the period of industrialization, modernization and international integration, meeting the requirements of sustainable development of the country.
People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , President of the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts Associations, emphasized that the Great Victory of Spring 1975 brought the country to a new page in history, and at the same time opened up a new atmosphere and space for the country's literature and arts; a period of unified and harmonious culture and arts; developing in a comprehensive, complete, progressive and revolutionary manner; thereby keeping pace, encouraging and accompanying the cause of national innovation and development.
According to People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, to adapt to the new situation, over the past 50 years, the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association has promoted the development of association organizations and gathered artists to develop comprehensively with 9 specialized associations and more than 4,400 members.
With the close guidance and attention of the Hanoi Party Committee and People's Committee, the Hanoi Literature and Arts Association has achieved achievements in organizing and investing in creative activities over the past half century, gathering a large number of dedicated artists and writers, creating many works and artistic works, serving readers and the public of the capital. Literary and artistic activities are always closely linked to the nation; strive to truly reflect the life, work and creativity of the people; contribute to building a social spiritual foundation, nurturing and educating people, promoting socio -economic development...
Many works have openly fought against and criticized the bad, negative, social evils, wrong thoughts, ethics, and lifestyles; and protected moral and humanistic values. In addition to creation, many theoretical research, criticism, and translation works have been published to summarize literary and artistic values, introduce the quintessence of human culture; and affirm the traditional cultural values of the nation. Historical topics, especially revolutionary war topics and modern topics, are covered quite comprehensively, expressed in many forms, attractive, modern, and appealing to the public.
Citing outstanding literary works from 1975 to present by Hanoi writers, Master Nguyen Thi Minh Bac (Hanoi Writers Association) said that the capital’s literature and art have moved towards democratization. If previously literature and art emphasized the function of education and encouragement of fighting, now, although not far from the educational goal, they still satisfy the need for communication, dialogue and especially the need for entertainment, forecasting, and sharing…
According to People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram (Hanoi Theater Association), literature, art in general and theater in the capital in particular have had exchanges between regions, impacts, influences and created innovations. The issues of building a new life, labor production, building the country and the pressing issues that society is concerned about have been strongly reflected.
People's Artist Bui Thanh Tram said that Hanoi's theater, from drama, cheo, cai luong, puppetry, circus, etc., has gone through many stages, sometimes "golden" and sometimes difficult when competing with new forms of entertainment, but currently, Hanoi's theater has made great investments, both preserving tradition and updating modern forms to approach and meet the needs of today's audiences.
Promoting spiritual factors, bringing new values
Along with affirming the contribution of Hanoi literature and art on the political and ideological front, enriching the spiritual life of the people, at the workshop, artists and delegates gave their opinions so that literature and art can continue to promote their strength, bringing many new values to the development of the capital and the country.
Referring to the practice, preservation and transmission of Hanoi folk arts values over the past 50 years, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi An, President of the Hanoi Folk Arts Association, said that the capital's folk arts have initially participated in cultural industrial activities and this point needs to be actively promoted in the coming time.
“The traditional cultural heritages in Hanoi that are listed in the national intangible cultural heritage and representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity can be well promoted in the cultural industry, expressed in performances on stages or live performances, in programs for sightseeing tours, creative spaces of the capital... This contributes to attracting domestic and international tourists, attracting the interest and enjoyment of people, especially young people", Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi An suggested.
Looking at it from another perspective, People's Artist Ung Duy Thinh (Hanoi Dance Artists Association) said that, besides professional dance, Hanoi has a vibrant dance art movement, bringing significant achievements to social life. Through centers, schools, agencies, units... we can see the vibrant movement of composing and performing mass dance. Festivals and mass art performances are colorful paintings, encouraging and praising productive labor. "Dance art helps people come together, unite more closely in life, and contribute to building the Capital", People's Artist Ung Duy Thinh expressed.
According to music researcher Nguyen Thi Minh Chau (Hanoi Music Association), over the past 50 years, traditional, symphonic, and chamber music in the capital have all developed remarkably, with many cross-fertilization and experimentation to reach the public. The most vibrant development is entertainment music. From pop-rock, young people quickly caught up with R&B, ballad, jazz, hip-hop, rap, acoustic...; then indie, meanstream, underground... The way of making music, listening to music, and promoting music has also developed strongly on digital platforms...
Researcher Nguyen Thi Minh Chau believes that the unprecedentedly rich and expanding environment and conditions for art activities and enjoyment also give rise to many problems and it is necessary to improve the level of music management in particular, and literature and art in general, to build a literature and art foundation in the capital that is suitable for the times while still being harmonious, balanced, unique and humane.
