From Korean exercises to viral clips on social media
In the past few hours, social networks have continuously shared a clip of a Vietnamese male student in Korea giving a presentation about Vietnam in the era of development.
The presentation was entirely in Korean, fully conveying the heroic parade images of the Vietnam People's Army in two important events A50 and A80, while also introducing the quintessence of culture, cuisine, nature as well as the strong rise of Vietnamese sports .

More than 2,000 shares and more than 1,500 comments were left under the clip, praising the Vietnamese man for his inspiring voice and deep national pride. One comment read: “He brought the A80 atmosphere to Korea.”
The owner of this viral clip is Hoang Thanh Dat - a first-year student at Catholic University of Korea, majoring in Korean Language and Culture.
Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Hoang Thanh Dat said the clip was actually an entry in a Korean language contest for international students at the university.
Students were given the choice of a free topic and Dat chose “Vietnam - The Era of Rising”, inspired by two important events: A50 (50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification) and A80 (80th anniversary of National Day).
“I used to regret not being able to go home to enjoy the A50 and A80 atmosphere. So I thought: Why don’t I bring that atmosphere to Korea so that teachers and friends here can enjoy it together?”, Dat shared his idea.
In the video, which is more than 6 minutes long, Dat had no difficulty in selecting the most beautiful and majestic images of Vietnam today. The biggest problem for the male student was choosing how to end the story. Dat wanted to include the song Xin Chao Viet Nam ( Hello Vietnam ) by Pham Quynh Anh in the presentation, but this song does not have Korean lyrics.
The male student spent two sleepless nights concentrating on writing lyrics, asking the teacher to correct each word and grammar structure. Finally, with his "God-given" voice, the male student convinced his teachers and friends with an emotional melody about his homeland.
When posting the clip online, Dat did not expect to receive so much attention. Many uncles and aunts he had never met commented to praise and thank the male student.

Two days ago, when Dat went to class to study Korean culture and language, he was surprised when the professor opened his presentation as evidence. Dat said that the professor had never been to Vietnam, like many professors at the school, but when they watched Dat's clip, they saw Vietnam from a different perspective.
“Professor, thank you for showing me a modern, confident and integrated Vietnam,” Dat shared.
When asked about the inspiration for making the clip, Dat immediately talked about his father - a farmer who is "addicted to history". "My father also talked about history while eating. When I was little, I found it annoying, but when I grew up, I understood that it was my father's way of instilling national pride in me," Dat said.
Turning at the crossroads of life
Four years ago, Hoang Thanh Dat dreamed of becoming a military doctor but did not have enough points to pass. He was admitted to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam National University, Hanoi ).
Receiving the results on the system, Hoang Thanh Dat once thought his future was predetermined. Dat's family was a farmer, his parents were both old, saving every penny for their son to study medicine - a profession considered stable and prestigious.
But the more he studied, the more he realized that this was not the path he wanted to take. After two years, Dat decided to stop and asked his family for permission to go to Korea to study and work.

His original intention was to study abroad to earn money, but after only a few months of studying at the language center, Dat realized that what he really loved was knowledge.
Dat's parents, who have been farmers all their lives, agreed to invest in their son's education. Currently, Dat is studying at Catholic University while working part-time at the school's International Exchange Office, which helps foreign students with administrative procedures, paperwork, and integration.
Despite receiving a 100% scholarship thanks to his good results in language studies, Dat still works part-time at a restaurant in the evening to practice communication and gain experience. A male student's day starts at 9am and ends at 12am.
“I see this as my last chance to live fully with what I choose,” Dat said.
Even though he only sleeps 4-5 hours a day, Dat still feels full of energy. The male student from Hung Yen admires the studiousness and is inspired by the Korean people's spirit of hard work.
“Here, everyone values knowledge. Korean students study all night in coffee shops, libraries or lecture halls. During exam preparation periods, they sometimes only sleep 2-3 hours a day. Koreans value degrees very much, so they study hard. Another interesting point is that Koreans value 3 types of certificates when applying for jobs: foreign languages, computers and history. A technical staff with a history certificate will also have an advantage when recruiting,” Dat shared.
In the future, Dat hopes to work in the field of education or diplomacy. The male student loves the job of being a cultural and historical bridge between the two countries of Vietnam and Korea.
